The Carrion King is DEAD! (LoF game needs replacement player)

Recruitment

...and a powerful artifact found.

This is an ongoing highly modified Legacy of Fire PbP looking for 1 to 2 new players. We just finished the second book of the AP and characters are 6th level.

Line-up includes a currently deceased archer (possibly to be raised), a rogue swordsman, and a conjuring wizard. So a healer type would be nice.

Standard 20 point buy, 2 traits, 8000gp seed money. Everything in the Core Rule Book and Advanced Player’s Guide is fine. No 3pp and I'll consider other books on a case-by-case basis, but I do try to keep a tight rein on things.

NOTE: I run things a little lower powered. This is a 3.5 AP though I'm running it with PF rules. I've found that it is easier to keep things pulled in a bit rather than allow it to become an arms race.

Please be able to post an average of once a day.

This AP is set in Katapesh and I'd like PCs that fit in and make good use of the Arabian Nights flavor.

Game is HERE
Please feel free to post any questions.

We are lovable. Like puppies. But more articulate (usually). Join us!

I'm lovable like a dead body in a sack.

To be clear, I don't kill all my players off, just the ones that don't know when to be quiet.

Shhhh! You're scaring off the fresh meat...

I can offer a Life Oracle/Paladin to make sure that nobody dies ever again. :-) Are archetypes allowed?

Whack-a-Rogue wrote:

usually fine. What'd you have in mind?

Here is Hector a young oracle ready to help out as best he can.

Dual-cursed so I can give people fun rerolls. I can get him statted up by tomorrow at the latest, but he'll be a pure healer.

We specialize in being squishy, so healing is always useful.

Ok, I used to be squishy, now that rigor-mortis has set in, not so much.

And, how am I supposed to be scaring people away? The rest of the party has me stuffed in a bag.

mmm with two oracles types in the running, the healer slot is looking less likely to be available. Anything else you guys are looking for? :)

Glancing at the character page, by vague impression is that the party is down one token female fighty type from the traditional fighter/mage/rogue/cleric combo. I'm tempted to offer up the character I'm pitching for a Skull & Shackles game if I don't make the cut, but the mountains on the northern border of Katapesh would be a distinctly odd place to encounter a mermaid bloodrager.

mermaid would indeed be a hard sell. As mentioned, I'm looking for the best fit healer so the more variety the better.

Also, to help with selection, give me a little character background and personality. I don't need a novella, but I want to see a character that fits in with the setting and feel of the game.

Actually I think that the bard is the one missing and that Kzrira is botting him until she can have her character get resurrected or reincarnated.

That's correct. The bard was the main source of healing and buffing and his disappearance is the main reason we're recruiting.

The archer will most likely soon be restored.

Here's what I have so far. :-) Everything's from Core + APG. I'd asked earlier about taking the Dual-Cursed archetype (in which case, I'd change a couple spells known and maybe one feat), but it isn't necessary for the build. All that's left is to purchase gear, but it's pretty standard (CHA-booster, Armor, etc.) Abdul is a pacifist, but he does understand that violence can't always be avoided. He just won't directly participate, preferring instead to focus on healing and enchantment spells to minimize bloodshed.

Fluff:
Abdul Hassan al'Akbar was once a feared desert warlord but has since undergone a radical life change. Known as "The Scourge of the Sands", Abdul led a large tribe of mercenary bandits. With utter ruthlessness, he was in the process of carving out a large swath of chaos and destruction through Quadira when everything changed.

In a cunning ambush, his tribe was wiped out by men working for the Sapphire Sage. Gravely wounded and left for dead, Abdul was the only survivor. As he recovered from his injuries, Abdul gradually came to realize that Sarenrae herself had given him another chance at life, and he aims to take full advantage of it. Now, haunted by the ghosts of the countless innocents he'd murdered in his fruitless quest for power, Abdul works as a wandering healer. He's vowed to never again take a life. "Too much blood is on my hands that can never be washed clean. I cannot rest until that cost has been paid in full. To those under my protection, I make this promise: you will not fall while I still draw breath."

Abdul Hassan al'Akbar:

Here is what we had, for those of you interested in the normal Cleric/Fighter/Mage/Thief roles.

Amir - fighter/thief, started as our skill player but has ended up as a light armored front liner
Kzrira - ranged fighter/ranger - best front liner, but is never on the front line because of the bow (currently metabolically challenged due to poorly timed crit by the BBEG, may be raised/reincarnated or might create a new character)
Karethas - wizard(conjurer) - creates front line help
Faelar - bard(bookworm)(very knowledge focused) - our main healer, has not posted in a few weeks

Thus, we are missing a real front liner, a true healer, and a normal skill monkey. I hope this helps (to confuse) any submissions. Yes, we would like to have roles filled, but finding characters with creative backstories is more important.

The Exchange

Introducing Nasir ibn Al'Said, Sacred Servant Paladin of Sarenrae. Originally created for a loF campaign that died out several years ago.
In that campaign the GM allowed me to take the 3.5 feat Oversized Two-weapon Fighting to allow him to dual wield scimitars without the horrendous off hand penalties. If that's going to be a deal breaker let me know and I can work around it.

OK, three candidates so far:

Void Dragon- Hector Starwatcher- Oracle 6
Wack-a-Rogue- Abdul al'Akbar- Pal 2/ Oracle 4
Vanulf Wolfson- Nasir ibn Al'Said- Paladin (6?)

Vanulf- would you mind sketching Nasir out at level 6 so I have a better idea what you'd actually be playing? I'd probably allow the dual scimitars.

I appreciate the appropriate backgrounds all.

I'll likely leave it open until Tues-Wed and decide after discussion with my players.

And how exactly is the dead archer in the sack of holding supposed to have a conversation with anyone? Heck, I do not even think our party wizard can cast Speak with Dead.

Oh, wait, my bad. I am possessing the party bard who has gone missing, thats right. Want to see something cool, watch me make him dance.

Umm...the party wizard has saved the day more times than your simple warrior can count. I also take offense to the idea that I only summon front line help. I am an exceptional battlefield controller that has a wide variety of spells that gives the party VAST advantages.

I thought that that was the definition of front line help in our party. Anything that keeps the front line from getting killed. Pits, monsters, grease, sparkly things, sneaky ropes where we can all hide from bad monsters.

Very interested in applying, but might not be able to get a full character up until Monday or so.

What are your thoughts on a Suli PC?

IronDesk wrote:

It'll be open until Tues or Wed. Suli are fine.

Folks might notice that i carry the water as the voice of reason in our low wisdom parry, lol. We do bicker a bit, but out of love. I agree.that flavor trumps roles though having more fighter.types.on the front lines means i can resume my roguery, lol.

Thinking either cleric or inquisitor with so many oracle entries.

Just remember, we already have the following rolls well covered:

Conjurer
Decrepit old Rogue/Fighter
dead Archer

With such a balanced and well defined group how could you fail? ;)

make that wizard school drop-out Conjurer. just saying.

If I relocated this character to Katapesh from Korvosa, made it so her master was still safe and tacked on 3 levels, does she seem like something your group could use? She's a melee focused skill monkey.

Scritch. wrote:

Sorry. We'f already GOT WAN! (more or less)

Fair enough. Thanks for the quick reply. +1 for the Monty Python reference

Keep forgetting he is a dropout, although that explains a lot.

Well, if this is still open, I'd like to throw my hat into the ring. I'll have something a little later this evening.

EDIT: Also, is it average HP?

My entry.

Backstory:

Aliyeh was a lost soul long before Haleen ripped her from a violent and chaotic childhood. Long ago abandoned to the care of city thieves Aliyeh grew up among liars, gangs, and the worst that her home city had to offer.
A young girl of easy prey to pimps and slavers she made up for her size and youth with sheer ferocity and a violent temper that all who knew her feared.

But that's all behind her. On a fateful night during one of the incredibly rare thunderstorms that affected her home city she was beaten near to death and left to bleed out in a darkened alleyway like another nameless dead soul to litter the gutters.

It was chance that the woman known as Haleen would find her. And the skill of a cleric that would save her life.

What HAleen gave her was purpose. She harnessed Aliyeh's anger. Tuned it so that she directed it at the injustice's of the world. She joined a priesthood and hasn't turned back.

Aileyah is every bit as fierce as she was in her youth, but tempered now as much by age as well as experience and training. She wanders from town to town now, dispensing the swift justice of Sarenrae and preaching her word to all those who would hear. Urging the evil to repent, lest they face the wrath of the desert sun.

Have two sets of mechanics for her. Pick one. They both apply to the backstory.

The Inquisitor

The Cleric

IT's up to the gm/players which version they want. The story is the same.

OK, the current tally. As mentioned I'll leave it open until Tues and have a decision before the end of the week.

Void Dragon- Hector Starwatcher- Oracle 6
Wack-a-Rogue- Abdul al'Akbar- Pal 2/ Oracle 4
Vanulf Wolfson- Nasir ibn Al'Said- Paladin 6
Adam Warnock- Garra- Fighter 6
TarkXT- Aliyeh- Clr or Inquisitor 6

Would you allow the Varisian Pilgrim cleric archetype from Inner Sea Magic?

Looks interesting. I have never even seen the archetype because the d20 site does not list it on the normal cleric page, only on the separate archetype page. (I think they could use an editor to clean up some of their coding and links.)

Of course, I am not the DM, just the token dead woman in the party.

Tilnar wrote:

certainly!

Will make a hard to hit cleric soon.

I might even try this reach cleric that is all the buzz.

Would you allow any of the Advanced Class Guide classes? Specifically the Shaman?

I can't offer much in the form of a healer, but I do have a Stalwart Defender built that would make it his duty to protect the party from ever being struck. He's a Fighter 3/Stonelord 3 who wields a Fauchard and a Tower shield. He may not offer much healing, but that won't matter when the enemies can't make it past him to attack the other members of the party!

I've got a concept for a Saerenrae-worshipping druid, but I'm not sure If I'd be able to get crunch up by tomorrow.

That does not help much when the enemy circles behind you and attacks the softies bringing up the rear.

I am NOT allowed to be struck...it almost never happens.

Indeed, your glass like figure and delicate hands are not for the smashing . Luckily you are getting to the point where you can flood the room with creatures so it is no longer annoying to have to put myself in harms way FOR you ;p

I put myself in harms way for the mage once. Now there are two of me, the top half and the bottom half. Sadly, try as they might, all the king's bards, rogues, and mages were unable to put Kzrira back together again.
