[Jehova's Arena, Test] Fight the Nineteenth, Rolg vs. Kailin

Play-by-Post

As Kailin and Rolg enter the arena, the audience is struck by the remarkable contrast between the two. They are here for the same reason, however, and they take their places across from one another.

Kailin is at A10, Rolg at L10, companions to their respective lefts.

ROLG THE RED

Rolg steps back into the arena. He gives the sands, the pillars, and the crowd a familiar grin. The red-maned square-of-a-dwarf is coming to feel at home here.

Clad in nearly the same gear as before, he seems to have chosen a few less weapons but instead has purchased a cloak of some kind, but it sure does look fancy. His trusty lucerne hammer rests comfortably on his shoulder as he looks across at his opponent.

Breastplate, heavy steel shield on back, spiked gauntlets, lucerne hammer (in hands), Large-sized Dwarven war axe lashed across back, normal-sized Dwarven war axe hanging from belt, 7 chakram and 3 nets within easy drawing reach, and a cloak on his back.

He stoops down, picks up some sand, and dusts it between his hands as he prepares for the fight to begin.

Arbiter:
Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Initiative 4 (D'oh!)

Male Half-Elf

Kailin steps into the arena while Sunahl slithers out to his left. The serpent bares his fangs at Rolg, while Kailin looks over impassively. With a grand motion, he draws his blade and levels it between himself and the dwarf, setting himself at a battle-ready stance.

His equipment looks much the same as from his previous fights.

Mwk Katana and Light crossbow, as well as Leather Lamellar armor and a spell component pouch (that I tend to forget to mention). Sunahl's got... fangs and scales.

GM:
Kailin's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Sunahl's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Kailin's Initiative = 22
Sunahl's Initiative = 13
.
Guess they'll be goin' first then.

Male Half-Elf

Grabbing a pinch of black powder from his spell component pouch, Kailin tosses it into the air, arcane energy flaring up before he presses a hand on Sunahl's back. The eidolon shifts and coils as his form grows larger, and hunkers down, teeth bared towards Rolg, as Kailin steps to the side.

Sunahl is now Large, taking up squares A11-B12. Kailin steps over to A9.

Spellcraft DC 16 for the Spell, though it's probably pretty obvious >_>:
Enlarge Person

GM:
Enlarge Person on Sunahl, and 5-foot step to A9 from Kailin.
.
Sunahl is readying an action that if Rolg gets close enough that a 5-foot step can bring him into range of his jaws, he will make that 5-foot step and chomp, going for a grapple.

That'll be all for their turns.

ROLG THE RED

Arbiter:
Spellcraft 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

That didn't do it. But I'm making an assumption here, and Enlarge Person is a full-round to cast… meaning you can start it this round, but will have to complete it by using your move on your next round.

:: Surprise Round ::

Rolg stands his ground, muttering his own mumbo jumbo in response to Kailin's.

Spellcraft DC 16:
Casts Shield of Faith

Arbiter:
Cast Shield of Faith
Swift to activate Judgement of Purity

AC 20; CMD 18
Fort +10 Reflex +4 Will +8

Kailin's up.

Kailin Only:
I'm not sure if I allowed this in some other fight when I was not paying as much attention, but casting Enlarge Person is a full-round action, so Sunahl not get big as soon as you begin casting.

Male Half-Elf

Oh shit, so it is. I messed that up in his fight with Macho then. I don't think Kailin was moving much when he was buffing anyway, but I suppose things could have played out differently :/ Hmm. Well for this, yeah, he'll finish it up with his move action this turn then.
.
::Round 1::

GM:
Yeah, I did indeed do that in the fight with Macho, if I recall correctly. If you think that would have made a difference and we want to do something about it, let me know.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Move action to finish casting, as per Eben's clarification.
.
They are then both going to ready standard actions that if Eben charges, they're going to break left and right, around the pillars to disrupt the charge lane (do I need to specify where they'll stop?)

Kailin finishes his spell this turn, and not much else happens. Rolg's turn.

ROLG THE RED

That does leave you with some remainign actions. Finishing Enlarge (as a move action) leaves Kailin with a Standard action on that round. Plus, as soon as that move action is used (and the spell is completed), your big-ass snake can take its full actions. Let me know if you're really done. I certainly don't want to short you

Male Half-Elf

Nope, yeah. They are finished.

Edit: Also, sorry I missed responding to this for awhile. My focus list has gotten a bit larger as of late >_>;

ROLG THE RED

Lol. No problem. I'll try to have my next post up within the hour. :)

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 1 ::

Rolg frowns at his opponents' inactions, shrugs, then bursts into motion.

The spectators are treated to a sight not seen since Rolg's initial appearance in the arena. He lets out a wordless roar, exploding across the arena sands in a reckless rush at the opposing man. With every thunderous step, he grows larger. The long-hafted hammer's head has expanded to nearly the size of Kailin's chest by the time it rushes through the air in a diagonal arc towards the man's torso.

Arbiter:
Swift to Enlarge
Rage + Charge to E/F.9/10

AC 16; CMD 19
Fort +12 Reflex +3 Will +10

Rolls:
Mwk Lucerne Hammer 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 = 26
---> Damage 3d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 3, 3) + 9 = 20

Doubles in size; charge to E/F 9/10; raging, charging hammer-strike on Kailin (who's currently in A.09, if I'm reading your posts correctly)
Attack 26; Damage 20

Kailin's up.

Male Half-Elf

That is indeed where Kailin is. However...

As Rolg bursts into the run, charging forward, Kailin and Sunahl both spring into action, moving in opposite directions of each other, behind the pillars and away from the enlarged Dwarf.

Now this may take some adjudication. Basically, they both had readied actions to move if/when you charged. Kailin will head to C5, while Sunahl moves to B15-C16. It is my assumption that this will basically foil your charge. Y/N?

ROLG THE RED

that all seems legit to me. I think it's valid enough to assume Kailin and Sunahl split before Rolg could get close enough to threaten them.
.
Which means you're up. :)

ROLG THE RED

Nice move, btw.

Male Half-Elf

Sweet. They're just gonna try and run out your crazy uber-dwarf mode for awhile, methinks, cuz that 20 ft. reach is like instadeath :P
.
::Round 2::

With a flick of his wrist, Kailin wards himself with a spell, and moves further around the large dwarf, while Sunahl does the same, besides the flick of the wrist that he doesn't have.

Spellcraft 16 for the spell, though you probably can guess this one too:
Shield

Kailin is off to G1, after he casts his spell, while Sunahl double moves to G18-H19.
.
Fun Fact of the Day: Without taking the vertical axis into account, there is a grand total of 6 squares in the arena that are too far for a summoner's lifelink ability, and only if they both stay in extreme opposite corners. Good to know :)
.
Anywho, Rolg's turn.

Gladiator_Eben wrote:
Nice move, btw.

Heh, well I've seen enough Charge splat and giant dwarf reach here to realize it's probably better to try to avoid those things :P

ROLG THE RED

I can appreciate that.

:: Round 2 ::
Spellcraft 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 <--- nope.

Rolg grins as the two split around the arena.

"Hyggelig!" He laughs, "La oss nå se hva du faktisk kan gjøre med det brevet opener."

The dwarf stalks around behind the half-elf, closing and swinging his hammer low in an attempt to sweep the man's legs out from under him.

Dwarven:
"Nice! Now let's see what you can actually do with that letter opener."

-----

Arbiter:
Note: Rage was not triggered last round because the strike never went off.

Shrink down. Move to F.03. Try to rage + trip Kailin: a 18 vs. your CMD.

Kailin's up (though hopefully he's actually down).

Male Half-Elf

Damn, you can do it turn by turn, and you have more movement than I had hoped. Hmm :/
.
Well, ::Round 3::

Kailin falls to the ground, but returns to his feet (provoking), taking a step towards the dwarf and swinging the blade at him. (If he's still standing after... standing, anyway.

GM:
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Whoops, I suppose it's nice to roll damage too.

Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Crit Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Well! I hope I'm not dead from the AoO, because that's a natural 20 followed by a 20 (not Natural) to confirm, for 9 and 8 damage respectively. Though, I doubt 17 damage will see you down. Not a bad chunk though, so, ya know.
.
Meanwhile, Sunahl slithers over to H9-I10. Kailin is at G2 after his 5-foot step to get into range.

ROLG THE RED

Sorry for the wait. And yes, Rolg is tons'o'fun. >:D

AoO:
Lucerne Hammer 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
---> Damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 5) + 7 = 16

AoO (against Kailin's prone AC) Attack 13; Damage 16

----
If that doesn't drop/kill Kailin, Kailin's crit confirms, dealing 17 points of damage to Rolg. Ouch. :(

:: Round 3 ::

The surgery-precision slice from the man's razor-sharp blade catches Rolg off-guard. It's only through sheer refusal to be one-shot by an opponent with elven blood that the dwarf remains on his feet. He allows the blow to push him backwards a step, creating enough distance to bring his hammer to bear once again.

"Du er en kreditt til din spisse øre slag…" he mutters through the pain.

Dwarven:
"You're a credit to your pointy-eared kind."

Arbiter:

HP 10/26

Rolls:
Mwk Lucerne Hammer 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
---> Damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 2) + 7 = 12

5' step to E.02. Attack Kailin. Drop Rage.
Attack 11, Damage 12

Kailin's up... the dice may be my undoing in this one...

Male Half-Elf

No worries on the wait, it's a PbP, they occasionally need to stop for a bit :P
.
Also, luck on the dice might be the only way Kailin has a chance against Rolg.
.
::Round 4::

As Rolg makes his swings at Kailin they are deflected, either by armor or a small trace of magical force surrounding the half-elf. Meanwhile, Sunahl continues crossing the battlefield, coming up behind Rolg with a snarl just as Kailin steps over to the side, and swings at the dwarf once again.

Kailin delays his turn for Sunahl to go first, double moving over to C4-D5 (which shouldn't see him moving through any of your threatened squares).
.
Kailin then 5-foot steps to F1, in order to set up flanking with Sunahl from his C4 space (Bite with Reach accounting for the threatening from there). I think this is all good for flanking?
.
From there, Kailin makes the swing.

GM:
Attack, with flanking: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Oof. That's a 9 to hit, with the flanking. I'm gonna guess that didn't go through.
.
Rolg's turn.
.
Also... actually, looking at it, I'm not sure if that would work for flanking or not. Sunahl can certainly reach Rolg such as from D4, but if he were making the attack directly from C4 he couldn't (as it's 15 feet), and that is the square that would be letting him count for flanking from Kailin. I'm not entirely sure how that would play out.
.
Well, either way, it'll make for 7 or 9 to hit, and I'm doubting either of those will, so yeah, Rolg's up.

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 4 ::
I'm pretty sure that's a flank. They threaten Rolg on opposite sides (or, in this case, corners).

Rolg can feel the snake behind him… like an iron bar in a vise. Thinking quickly, he slings the shield from his back, hunkering down as he takes a step to the south.

-----

Arbiter:
Nothing special

HP 11/26

Draw Shield. Full Defense. 5' step to F.02

Kailin's up.

Male Half-Elf

:: Round 5 ::

As Rolg goes on the defensive, Kailin steps to the side to keep him surrounded, while Sunahl moves further up behind him, both of them lashing out simultaneously.

5-foot step for Kailin (after Sunahl delays to go after him, since they switched turns last round) down to G1, and readied action to attack once Sunahl flanks.
.
Sunahl 5-foot steps to D3-E4, proc'ing Kailin's attack, then full attacks himself.

GM:
Kailin's Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Sunahl's Bite Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Grab Attempt: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Constrict Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Sunahl's Tail Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Hmm, talk about some cool matchups here.
.
Well, Kailin's got 13 to hit, which probably doesn't, but 6 damage if it does.
Sunahl's got a 14 to hit with his bite, which probably doesn't but if it does, 4 damage.
If the Bite could miraculously hit, he's got a Natural 20 on a free grapple attempt, for 9 extra damage and... grappling, obviously.
And then a tail slap for 14 to hit, and 2 damage.
.
And that'll be all for them. You're up.

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 5 ::

Rolg grunts as the attacks all bounce off of his armor and shield, then grunts again at the futile nature of trying to get better positioning.

The hammer hits the floor as he draws the war axe from his hip, stepping into the unnaturally large snake and driving his axe towards its head.

-----

Arbiter:
All listed below

HP 12/26

rolls:
Dwarven Waraxe 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
---> Damage 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Crit Confirm 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
---> Damage 2d10 + 4 ⇒ (10, 4) + 4 = 18

5' step to E.03. Drop hammer, draw war axe, attack the snake.
Attack 24 (natural 20); Damage 6
Crit confirm 17; Additional damage 18 (for 24 damage if confirmed)

Kailin's up.

Male Half-Elf

Edit 3: Okay, this is disorganized. Let me just clean this up totally. I originally thought the crit missed, but it didn't.

As the axe slams into Sunahl's body, it cuts deep, piercing his scales and sending the eidolon toppling to the ground. Kailin grunts at the impact, but steps up to attack Rolg.

GM:
Sunahl's Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Grab: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Constrict: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Tail Slap: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

^ These are useless now.

Kailin's Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Edit: Sunahl needs a Stabilization roll, not any of those attacks. He's at -11 hit points.
Stabilization: 1d20 - 10 ⇒ (9) - 10 = -1

Kailin's Katana: 11 to hit, 8 damage. Knock 2 off on the attack roll. It's 9 to hit.
.
Kailin's in F2, Rolg's up.

Continuation of Edit 3: Okay, removing the other two edits 'cuz they were fixing things that are now fixed. Long story short, snake is down, Kailin just failed at stabbing, and it is Rolg's turn.

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 6 ::
Geez, that can't have beat your Eidelon's AC by much… and we certainly can't have that big guy getting backup...

Knowing it's too dangerous to risk letting the half-elf's arena partner live (ya know, on the off-chance that you have a spell that will heal it), Rolg once again steps back out of Kailin's blade's range. Then, with intentional effort, he buries the axe one more time in the neck of the big creature at the base of its head.

He looks back up at his component. And while the sand beneath the dwarf is a dark, dark red with his own blood mixed with that of the giant snake, the dwarf appears to be stronger by the moment.

-----

Arbiter:
All listed below

HP 13/26

5' step to D.03. CDG on the snake
War Axe Crit Damage 3d10 + 6 ⇒ (9, 1, 2) + 6 = 18

Kailin's up.

Male Half-Elf

Well, he was down far enough into negatives and Rolg's being resilent enough that I probably doubt he'd have been getting back up. I won't complain though, as it is one more turn Kailin's not dead, even if all he's doing is swingin' for misses :P
.
:: Round 7 ::

Kailin's breath goes out of him sharply as the axe bites into his eidolon. He recoils as if in shared pain for a moment. As the blood goes across the arena sands, a sharp crack like that of thunder resonates, as Sunahl's form fades into dark storm clouds and disperses.

As the echo of the thunder fades, Kailin lets out an angry shout as he rushes forward to strike at Rolg.

GM:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

*facepalm, facepalm, facepalm!* I just realized I've been calculating Kailin's attacks with 2 less to hit than I was supposed to be. I must have mixed his up with Sunahl's. I am a complete moron. *beats head on desk*
.
Erg, well I won't worry about it now since I made the mistakes. We'll just see if I can start hitting perhaps >_o
.
He 5-foot steps after Rolg to E3, and attacks. 14 to hit, with 11 on the damage. Rolg's up after that.
.
Edit: Looking over them, I doubt any would have had different results with 2 more on his attacks. Round 3 would have seen the Crit confirmation be 22 instead, Round 4 would have been an 11, Round 5 would have been a 15, and Round 6 would have been the same as the 11 that I thought I got from flanking, then said to knock 2 off because Sunahl did in fact go down, so it would have been back to 11.
.
So, the only one that might have ended up differently probably would have been the one from Round 5. Again though, no worries, I'll just pay more attention to the right stats in the future *eyeroll*

ROLG THE RED

on the attack roll disparity:
I'm going back through and applying your full bonus (+5) to all of Kailins attacks (recreating Rolg's stats per round to make sure we're accurate).
.
Round 3 - crit confirms (thought it confirmed originally, so no change)
Round 4 - an 11 misses
Round 5 - all still misses (he had shield out and was full defensive)
.
So, no change in the amount of damage Rolg has taken up until this point. No harm, no foul, right?

And this last attack was a miss, as well.

:: Round 7 ::

Rolg sidesteps the reckless attack, using the opening created by the man's overreach to quickly swing his axe down on the half-elf's arms. Unable to get his full weight behind it, it's a weak blow, but accurate.

"Han er en sint alv." As he speaks, the conviction comes back into his voice, replacing the fatigue of the last few seconds.

Dwarven:
"He's an angry elf."

-----

Arbiter:

also, I don't know that I'm supposed to tell you all of every detail, but I'm guessing an experienced combatant would know the subtle change, but Rolg is no longer fatigued.

Kailin's up.

Male Half-Elf

About attack rolls:
Yeah, it seemed like most of them were pretty well into miss range and 2 isn't a huge difference. Good to hear that it did all end up the same though.

Your attack does hit. On to :: Round 8 :: (and this battle really is going awhile isn't it?)

Kailin pulls back as the axe catches one of his arms and grunts, before fixing his grip on the sword's hilt. He then makes a more controlled strike at Rolg.

GM:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

17 to hit, with another 11 on the damage.
.
That'll be it. Unless you've got some fun tricks, I believe this is probably turning into a slug fest between the two now (unless Kailin starts swarming the arena with avians or something).

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 8 ::

The blade rings off Rolg's shield, and the dwarf answers with another axe-swing. The rhythm of the fight is like a grim dance, punctuated with grunts, the shuffling of feet, and the sounds of impacts.

Kailin wrote:

I do still have a few tricks, but I'm not gonna pull them out until Rolg has more of a hp padding. that katana can produce some decent damage numbers, and I'd like to shave the odds as much as I can.

Kailin's up.

ROLG THE RED

And yes, seriously, this match has gone on longer than I expected it would. Which is awesome. :D

Male Half-Elf

That is a miss. And heh, yeah, katana's got some decent damage numbers, if only I could hit :P And yeah, this has been a pretty neat match so far.
.
:: Round 9 ::

The axe passes Kailin by, deflected slightly in its movement, before the half-elf sets his stance and makes another swipe at Rolg.

GM:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Well now, 21 to hit, for 9 damage. If that doesn't go through, I'm gonna be sad, 'cuz it means my odds of hitting you are lower than I'd have hoped.
.
Rolg is a go.

ROLG THE RED

:: Round 9 ::

Sorry to disappoint, but…
Rolg gets his shield up just in time. What would have been a painful cut becomes a loud CLAANG of metal on metal. The dwarf responds by exploding to twice his size as he takes a step backwards, his large, reaching axe sweeping low to take Kailin's legs out from under him again.

Kailin's up (but again hopefully down).

Male Half-Elf

Oh man, it really did miss? This is gonna suck then...
.
:: Round 10 ::

Kailin falls back to the ground a second time, face down on the sand. He gets his arms under him, but then holds still a moment, keeping an eye on Rolg's movements.

GM:
Readying action that immediately after Rolg returns to his normal size (hopefully at the beginning of his next turn), and loses his reach, Kailin will hop-up and 5-foot step away from him.
.
If it needs to 'interrupt' something, I can instead ready it to trigger on the first action/movement Rolg makes, even if it's only a 5-foot step. Actually, yeah, we'll do that, in case he doesn't go back to normal size that soon anyway, I can at least be back on my feet (or dead in the dirt).

I'm a little unsure how this'll work out. Your turn.

ROLG THE RED

Rolg's massive axe falls with wicked speed.

Arbiter:

HP 17/26

Crit confirm 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
---> Additional Damage 4d8 + 8 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 2) + 8 = 16

Attack 25 (nat 20), Damage 13
Crit confirm 7, additional damage 16

Rolg's done

Male Half-Elf

Damn, no shrinking back to normal size? I was hoping for that. Well, Kailin had a readied action to stand up and step back once you did anything, so prior to that hit, you'll have an AoO against him, and then he'll be 5 feet further away (F3, I think), but you can probably follow him with your own 5-foot step to make the regular attack.

ROLG THE RED

Hmmm. So i guess you're suggesting that between the beginning of Rolg's turn and before he can activate his swift action, he reverts to medium size and doesn't threaten Kailin to negate the AoO?
.
I see where you're coming from. It's not how I'd adjudicate it in any game of mine (as long as the player did, in fact, use the swift action first). From a strict interpretation of RAW, i can see your side, though.
.
Jehova, you wanna weigh in on this?
.
Either way, I'd still like to use that nat 20 attack roll, because — as you say — Rolg can simply step up and continue his assault even if Jehovah's interprets it to your advantage.

Male Half-Elf

Eben Only:
?
.
I'm not entirely positive what actions are what for you. If it's something you're keeping up on a per-round basis and you still can continue it, then yeah, I'd figure there's probably no period during which you go back to normal.
.
Previously, it's seemed like it's only lasted for a short time at any given moment (I can't recall seeing it for more than two rounds consecutively, though I can't say I totally remember. Not to mention I think lots of your fights have only lasted a few rounds anyway), making me think that I might have had luck in avoiding the AoO by readying to stand instead.
.
But yeah, if it's something you can keep active continually, then you've probably still got the AoO. And I would say that you can still use the crit as the normal attack since it is still pretty much the same. I know I'd want to keep it at any rate :P

ROLG THE RED

Sorry, i misread your post. It's the Growth cleric sub domain, so it can be maintained round per round. Which means you should be up, after taking that attack... Rolg never would have shrunk down.

ROLG THE RED

And by that i mean its your turn (still prone), as Rilg never shrunk down.

Male Half-Elf

Nah, I readied for any action on your part, not specifically on shrinking. So, I did still hop up. You've still got an AoO, which, if it hits, will pretty much certainly knock me out.

ROLG THE RED

Oh, ok. Cool.

AoO:
Dwarven War Axe 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
---> Damage 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6

Attack (vs prone AC) 13, Damage 6

Male Half-Elf

No hit on the AoO, but the crit hits (obviously), and leaves him staggered. We should have no more than 5 feet between us, yes? (After Kailin stepped back, and Rolg stepped up). Rather than track positions too closely now, this battle will be over one way or another after this, I think.
.
:: Round 11 ::

Kailin evades the bite of Rolg's axe as he rises to his feet, but is too slow to avoid the followup, and takes a vicious hit to the chest. He reels back, gasping for air. He seems barely able to remain on his feet, but grits his teeth and charges forward with a battle cry, throwing all of his force behind the blade as he goes in for one last strike.

GM:
Kailin's last attack!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Oh, that's funny. 1 Shy of a crit threat :P Well, 22 to hit, and 11 damage if it does. And Kailin takes 1 point of damage, putting him unconscious, after he 5-foot steps closer and makes his attack.

After his vicious lunge, the half-elf gasps and collapses to the ground heavily.

Welp, unless that hit and put you down into negatives, that'll be all for Kailin. If it did, I suppose we get to play the who-bleeds-out-first game, but otherwise... Rolg's up.
.
And just gotta say, this has been a very cool match :P

ROLG THE RED

Geez McCrow, this fight has been swingy!

Rolg is surprised when the half-elf survives the strike, and more surprised still when the lithe opponent springs inside his defense and slams that wicked curved blade between the joints of his breastplate at his side.

Rolg staggers from the blow, but remains on his feet (though not by much). The third surprise comes when the half-elf crumples to the ground, leaving his wicked blade buried in Rolg's side.

The half-elf had proven too canny, too quick, and too dangerous through the whole fight… generally too competent to take any chances. Without a second thought, Rolg drives his axe once more onto his opponent's chest.

CDG: 6d8 + 12 ⇒ (7, 2, 8, 4, 1, 7) + 12 = 41. If the damage doesn't kill you, roll a fort save with a DC equal to 51 or die. (though i would be absolutely, utterly stunned if 41 damage doesn't kill Kailin.)

He pauses to make sure the strike did the trick, then releases his power – shrinking back down to normal size. His axe and shield hit the ground as Rolg grabs the pommel of his fallen foe's blade – still protruding from his own side, his own blood mixing with that of his opponent's in the arena sands – and yanks it out.

In a show of respect for the half-elf, he flings the blood from the blade, then re-sheathes it for Kailin before picking the half-elf's body up off the ground.

In what is becoming his customary victory routine. He marches his fallen opponent back to their own entrance, then tosses him back into the darkness.

It's not until he turns back around that he finally addresses the crowds, roaring a victory shout as he holds his arms wide… accepting their praise.

After a few more seconds, he holds his side, collects his gear, and heads back down his own arena entrance.

Geez, Darkwolf… good match. I had no idea which way that was gonna go a few times there.

Male Half-Elf

41 damage most certainly does finish off Kailin.
.
And yeah, that fight was a little crazy. Definitely quite fun though :P
