I'm just adding a couple more things here right before I create the Adventure thread.
USE OF SPOILERS
In the Adventure thread, please use spoilers only when you actually need to keep information private from other group members. Whenever you use a spoiler, please put the name of the other players who may look at it in BOLD right before the spoiler itself. If you see a spoiler, please look at it only if your name appears right before it. This will help to build mystery and will allow for actions if the party ever gets split up.
EDIT: Also, if something is only intended for me, please put "DM", "DM_Iziak", or "Iziak" as who may read it.
OUT-OF-CHARACTER TEXT
When writing please use ooc text for all out-of-character discussion, including: rules comments, dice roll results, and simple conversation. Most everything else can be in normal in-character text.
DM_Iziak
The Adventure Thread has been created, and you can start posting in it whenever you want. See the Adventure Thread now!
Also, I've added a quick link to my profile.

Skazz's background is just that really; background. Cant really see it having much influence on the game but I like a character to have some depth. Hope thats ok.
Sure thing. I just wanted to make sure because I have used character background a lot when roleplaying PCs. It's just that that part of your character background really wouldn't fit to well into the story arc if you roleplayed a lot using it. If it's just background, I think that it is a really nice addition.
DM_Iziak
I too, am enjoying it - we have an interesting mix of characters here.
It really is... human wizard, dwarf ranger, dwarf cleric, half-orc barbarian, and half-elf rogue. I haven't seen such a wide range of characters in all of my time playing D&D... there's usually a lot more humans. It's nice to see a change.

COMBAT
I’ve already mentioned a few of the changes that I’ve made to combat, but here is a more extensive listing. Once again, if there’s anything that you don’t like here, please let me know.
-Posting. My hope is for people to post in (approximately) initiative order. At the start of a fight, I’ll roll initiative for all of you so that we don’t spend a whole day waiting of hear from everybody.
-Saves. Saves use static numbers (normal save modifier + 10) instead of a d20 roll. Effects that would previously allow a save are now attacks with an attack bonus of (normal save DC – 10). YOU CANNOT SCORE CRITICAL HITS WITH ATTACKS AGAINST A SAVE, although a natural 20 is still an automatic hit and a natural 1 is still an automatic miss. There are no flat-footed or touch saves, they always use the same, static number. If you use an ability that targets multiple creatures with an attack vs. save, make a separate attack for each creature.
-Revealed statistics. At the start of any combat, I’ll supply you with defensive statistics for all involved monsters and NPCs, both enemies and allies. These will be formatted as follows:
NAME (number present): statistics and abilities.
As an example, using the sample NPC from page 339 of the PRPG Beta.
KIRAMOR, THE FOREST SHADOW (1): AC 18 (touch 14, flat-footed 14); Fort 17, Ref 22, Will 12; hp 45; evasion (on a failed attack vs. Reflex that still deals half damage on a miss, Kiramor instead takes no damage).
-Recording attacks. Whenever you attack a monster or NPC, record the attack roll and (if you hit) damage dealt. Then record the total amount of hit points that the monster or NPC has left. When recording the hit points of monsters where there are more than one of the same type (for example, 3 orc barbarians), please differentiate the monsters using numbers (Orc Barbarian 1, Orc Barbarian 2, and Orc Barbarian 3). At the end of each round, I’ll post an update with remaining hit points on all involved monsters and NPCs. Whenever a PC’s hit points change, from damage or healing, the attacker/healer should do the same and post remaining hp.
-Space. Generally, space isn’t an issue. At the end of each round, I’ll post rough estimates of each creature’s location, but I won’t have a grid in front of me, either. Generally, ranged attacks (including ranged spells) can be made with no penalty against any creature in the same combat (unless there is some obviously major distance in spacing).
-Attacks of Opportunity. These will really need to be made ad hoc. If you think that any action should provoke an attack of opportunity based on the active creature’s space, please say so. For the most part, I’ll fully adjudicate monster AoPs and when PCs get to make AoPs.

The Pathfinder RPG's lead designer, Jason Bulmahn, recently posted this in a new thread as a variant for the barbarian's rage that he is considering for the final version of the PFRPG rules:
Rage (Ex): A barbarian can call upon inner reserves of strength and ferocity, granting her additional combat prowess. Starting at 1st level, a barbarian can rage for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + her Constitution modifier. At each level after 1st, she can rage for 2 additional rounds. Temporary increases to Constitution, such as those gained from rage and spells like bear’s endurance, do not increase the total number of rounds that a barbarian can rage per day. A barbarian can enter rage as a free action. The total number of rounds of rage per day are renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours do not need to be consecutive.
While in rage, a barbarian gains a +4 bonus to her Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase to Constitution grants the barbarian 2 hit points per Hit Dice, but these disappear when the rage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points. While in rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.
A barbarian can end her rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat.
Rage Powers: As a barbarian gains experience, she learns to harness her rage in new ways. Starting at 2nd level, a barbarian gains one rage power. She gains an additional rage power for every two levels of barbarian attained after 2nd level. A barbarian can use her rage powers only while raging, and some of these powers are always active. Unless otherwise noted, a barbarian cannot select an individual power more than once. A barbarian can use the same power more than once during an individual rage. Unless otherwise noted, these abilities are swift actions that must be performed on the barbarian’s turn.
Animal Fury (Ex): The barbarian may make a bite attack using her full base attack bonus plus her Strength modifier. If the bite hits, it deals 1d6 points of damage (assuming the barbarian is Medium; 1d4 points of damage if Small) plus one half the barbarian’s Strength modifier. A barbarian can use this power while grappled. If the bite attack hits, any grapple checks made against the target this round are at a +2 bonus.
Clear Mind (Su): A barbarian may reroll a failed Will save. This power is used as an immediate action after the save is failed. The barbarian must take the second result, even if it is worse. A barbarian must be at least 8th level before selecting this power.
Increased Damage Reduction (Ex): The barbarian’s damage reduction increases by 1/—. This increase is always active while the barbarian is raging. A barbarian can select this rage power up to three times. Its effects stack. A barbarian must be at least 8th level before selecting this power.
Elemental Rage (Su): All of the barbarian’s attacks deal an additional 1d6 points of energy damage for 1 round. The energy type must be acid, cold, electricity, or fire. This energy damage does not stack with energy damage dealt by special weapon abilities if it is of the same type. A barbarian must be at least 12th level before selecting this power.
Guarded Stance (Ex): The barbarian gains a +1 dodge bonus to her Armor Class against melee attacks for one round. This bonus increases by +1 for every 6 levels the barbarian has attained.
Intimidating Glare (Ex): The barbarian can make an Intimidate check against one adjacent foe. If the barbarian successfully demoralizes her opponent, the foe is shaken for 1d4 rounds +1 round for 5 points she exceeds the DC.
Knockback (Ex): The barbarian can make one free bull rush attempt against one target hit in melee this round. The barbarian does not need to move back with the target if successful. This power is used as an immediate action after the attack roll is made.
Low-Light Vision (Ex): The barbarian’s senses sharpen and she gains low-light vision while raging.
Mighty Swing (Ex): The barbarian automatically confirms a critical hit. This power is used as an immediate action once a critical threat has been determined. A barbarian must be at least 12th level before selecting this power.
Moment of Clarity (Ex): The barbarian does not gain any benefits or take any of the penalties from rage for 1 round. This includes the penalty to Armor Class and the restriction on what actions can be performed. This round still counts against her total number of rounds of rage per day. This power can only be used once per minute.
Night Vision (Ex): The barbarian’s senses grow incredibly sharp while raging and she gains darkvision 60 feet for 1 round. A barbarian must have low-light vision as a rage power or a racial trait to select this rage power.
Powerful Blow (Ex): The barbarian gains a +1 bonus to a single damage roll. This bonus increases by +1 for every 6 levels the barbarian has attained. This power is used as a swift action before the roll to hit is made.
Quick Reflexes (Ex): The barbarian can make an additional attack of opportunity above the normal limit of one per round. This power is used as an immediate action when an opponent takes an action that provokes an attack of opportunity.
Renewed Vigor (Su): As a standard action, the barbarian heals 1d8 points of damage + her Constitution modifier. For every four levels the barbarian has attained above 4th, this amount of damage healed increases by 1d8, to a maximum of 5d8 at 20th level. A barbarian must be at least 4th level before selecting this power. This power can only be used once per day.
Rolling Dodge (Ex): The barbarian gains a +1 dodge bonus to her Armor Class against ranged attacks for 1 round. This bonus increases by +1 for every 6 levels the barbarian has attained.
Roused Anger (Ex): The barbarian may enter a rage even if fatigued. Once this rage ends, the barbarian is exhausted for a number of minutes equal to the number of rounds spent raging.
Strength Surge (Ex): The barbarian adds her barbarian level on one Strength check or combat maneuver check, or to her combat maneuver bonus when an opponent attempts a maneuver against her. This power is used as an immediate action. Once used, this power cannot be used again for 1 minute.
Surprise Accuracy (Ex): The barbarian gains a +1 morale bonus on one attack roll. This bonus increases by +1 for every 6 levels the barbarian has attained. This power is used as a swift action before the roll to hit is made.
Swift Foot (Ex): The barbarian gains a 5-foot enhancement bonus to her speed. This increase is always active while the barbarian is raging. A barbarian can select this rage power up to three times. Its effects stack.
Terrifying Howl (Su): The barbarian unleashes a terrifying howl as a standard action. All shaken enemies within 30 feet must make a Will save (DC equal to 10 + 1/2 the barbarian’s level + the barbarian’s Strength modifier) or be panicked for 1d4+1 rounds. Once an enemy has made a save versus terrifying howl (successful or not) it is immune to this power for 24 hours. A barbarian must have the intimidating glare rage power to select this rage power. A barbarian must be at least 8th level before selecting this power.
Unexpected Strike (Ex): The barbarian can make a free attack, at her highest attack bonus, against a foe that moves adjacent to the barbarian. Using this power is an immediate action that counts as an attack of opportunity. Once used, this power cannot be used again for 1 minute. A barbarian must be at least 8th level before selecting this power.
Skazz, would you be interested in playtesting this variant until a final choice is decided on? It doesn't really matter to me either way, I just wanted to give you the option.
Corvin Vathis
This is my replacement alias for Corvin until he shows up, so that I don't keep posting "Corvin does X" under my DM alias. I've slightly tinkered with the layout of the statistics and made one slight tweak that seems to have originally been forgotten, and I've added in the money from the first combat, but otherwise this Corvin is statistically the same as the previous one.
P.H. Dungeon
Is the idea that someone runs Corvin or that I make a new character is made?
Currently I'm running 4 pbp games and playing in 1. Ideally I've been looking for a non dnd pbp to join, but I haven't found any so I ended up running some instead. However I know dnd very well and I'm running Second Darkness as a face to face game right now, so joining a second dnd pbp is no problem for me.
DM_Iziak
P.H. Dungeon, I was thinking that you could create a new character, and I'll take control of Corvin for now... although he won't be adventuring with you, he can kind of be a "background character" who is in it from time to time so that if PsiFox comes back he can play the same character.
To reply to your statement in the Looking for Players thread, I agree that if this was a campaign using a standard XP system, we'd never get through it, but that's why I'm using some variants to keep things moving. As it is, I think that it could be finished (although it could take awhile), since it only goes up to level 16 and the PCs will advance levels at least twice as fast as standard characters (in fact, the first level bump is coming soon, after just 3 encounters). In any case, even if the campaign isn't finished we're still all going to have fun while we are playing.
You can go ahead and create a 2nd-level character (1,000 gp + standard class starting gold; 25-point-buy ability scores; static saves). Some sort of blaster (warmage, warlock, wizard, sorcerer, etc.) would probably be good if Corvin isn't around, but you can create most any character you'd like.
Once you have a character made, we can discuss character background and things like that so that you can fit in to the campaign (which will probably take a week or two until the PCs get to the point where you can join in smoothly).

Cool, I'll mull over some character concepts. I have the guide to Korvosa, so I think I can come up with some stuff to fit into the world easily enough (my Golarion background is reasonably good). I do like playing spell casters, but I'm not so big on low level ones (especially in 3rd edition/Pathfinder). However if that's what the party needs I can do it.

Hey Iziak, I came across your thread ( i check out my buddy PHD's postings sometimes ;-) and I really like some of your ideas to speed up PbP's. Would you mind if I post them in some of my PbP's I'm in?
I also find your idea of a combined RotRL/CotCT games very intriguing and normally I'd be following the game with interest but as I am already involved in both of those games separately and as it seems your game might progress faster then they, I don't want to ruin them for myself with 'spoilers'. (Long sentence! But grammatically correct...I think? lol)
Anyway, wish ya all the best and good gaming to you. If you end up creating any more games I'd be happy to join as I like your style.

I'm thinking of going with another academae mage. He'd be Chelaxian. I'm thinking his family recent immigrated to Korvosa and is pretty well off. They've sacrificed a lot to send him to school and have put a lot of pressure on him to achieve (they are very strict and traditional). He has been trying to please them, and he developed a growing thirst for knowledge and power at the academae. He's a conjurer and is slightly corrupt (ie he might want an imp familiar eventually). He is a bit pompus and arrogant, but has lost some of that due to the experiences he's had at the acadeamae, which have showed him who much he still has to learn.

The best way for you to fit into the campaign is to have some reason to be helping the Korvosan Guard, and to have done something so that you were noticed by the Guard's leader. If that isn't to your tastes or doesn't suit your character, we can work something else out.

Hi Iziak
I just wanted to say, I am having a great time in the campaign. This is a great first experience for me in PbP.
I empathize with you over the quick take out on the big bad guy. I just ran a short campaign where the PCs' took out the big bad guy and his cronies without breaking a sweat. However, they were almost killed off by stirges. Go figure.

Thank you for the kind words.
And about the BBEG dying so fast, it's actually kind of cool to see 3 criticals in one round of combat taking down the 48-hp raging Large orc barbarian (and for you guys its a good thing that you won that fast... I don't think that Skazz would have been very happy if that orcs' turn had come up).

In that case I'm thinking of a female half-elf warrior named Vexiana (aka Vex). Her appearance tends to favor her human side. She's very tall and muscular for a female (even for a human- kind of amazon type build). She has completely shaved her head and fights with a heavy flail. She hates orcs and giants of all kinds. She tends to leap into battle without fear of consequences. She has probably proven herself to the city guard through her skill and courage.

I've got the basic crunch of the character here. I might have to change my stats. I went with 25 point buy using the Pathfinder rules, but I wasn't sure if that was what you meant or if you meant 25 point buy using the 3.5 rules.
Sorry about any confusion, but yes, I meant the Beta rules for the point buy. Your stats all look good to me, except that with static saves (there's rules somewhere in this thread for them), your saves should be static scores of 15/12/10.
Also, do you want to come up with your own character background, or would you like me to? I don't care who does it as long as it can tie into what I mentioned in the spoiler above.

Excellent, thanks.
Lianda's updated.
Having a ball, loving the story, the interactions and the DM'ing style.
Your level-up looks good to me. And thanks... this is my first PbP, so it's nice to know that I'm doing OK.
Of course, if it's the story you like you should also thank James Jacobs and Nicolas Logue... they're the great writers who came up with most of this stuff (in PF1: Burnt Offerings and PF7: Edge of Anarchy, respectively), I just combined their work together.
P.H. Dungeon
I was thinking that she might be the bastard daughter of Perishial Kalissreavil. Her mother, Amrila, was an attractive and sturdy female guard at the manor of a Chelaxian noble family living in Korvosa. The family occasionally entertained the elven ambassador and Perishial took an interest in the Amirla during one of his visits. The two had a tryst, and the result of the union was Vex.
When Amrila's employers found out that she had given birth to a bastard half elf girl, she was fired. Amrila became impoverished, and from then on struggled to eke out an existence for herself and her daughter. She sold herself as a prostitute, begged and did whatever necessary to survive. Vex grew up on the streets, but was tough enough that she held her own. Her mother helped her out by teaching her how to fight, for Amrila was a still a skilled warrior even though she no longer worked as one.
Amrila later had a client who was member of the Korvosan guard, he developed a thing for her and agreed to help her out a little by giving Vex a chance to join the guard. Vex took to her training with incredible vigor, and she was far stronger and talented than most men in the guard. Many of the male guards resented her because not only was she a half-elf, she was also a girl, and she was a stronger and better warrior then they. Consequently, she was overlooked for advancement and given some of the most drudgerous and/or dangerous duties, but these trials only made her stronger. Recently, she was on a patrol outside the city when her band encountered a group of orc raiders from the north near an outlying village. She was wounded in battle, and though the guard won the fight she was left for dead by her fellow guards. She was taken in by a some passing Varisian gypsies and nursed back to health. The gypsies had found an orc battle flail on the ground under the body of a dead orc that was beside her. She had killed the orc, but the guards were in bad condition after the fight and had failed thoroughly loot the battle field. They did not notice the weapon and did not take it. She took it for herself, and it has since become her favored weapon.
She has since returned to Korvosa, and she has been working as a sellsword for the past year or so. She bears a hatred towards particular members of the guard (the ones who left her for dead), and a grudge toward the guard as a whole, but might work for them in a sell sword capacity, especially if it gave her a chance to find some of the guards that screwed her and give them some pay back.
She still cares about her mother, and has been giving her money. Amrila no longer has to work as a prostitute.

-a lot of awesome backstory-
Nice! It may take a few days, but soon I'll post up an exact reason for you to meet up with the other PCs once they're a little closer. At the current rate of advancement, I can see it being a week to a week and a half until you can actually join in, but I hope to post recent background for you well before then.
