Creating an undead player

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So there is a necromancer in my party with create undead and he and another player have talked about and agreed that if he dies the necro shall raise him. As GM I am cool with this bc the rest of the party is as well.

Now I was thinking something like when he cast create undead to make whatever I step in and make the spell go a little differently and he actually creates an undead similar to the headless horseman.

My question what kind of undead do you guys think the Headless Horseman would be?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Now that's just thread-title bait and switch, right there.

I was hoping for a recipe on real-life necromancy!

Sorry just made the topic realtively fast. Have you read undead revisited they have some really good suggestions to make necromancy more in depth. As far as real-life goes I would recommend going and having a talk with Baron Samedi and then getting a player to volunteer.

Dullahan. Check the Pathfinder SRD for the stats if you don't have them.

That said, a question back to you. Why would you even consider this?

The Necro can control the undead he raises. In fact, since most undead loath and hate the living, he would need to do so to prevent the undead from attacking the party. Is the player who wants to have his character be undead fine with this?

NPC reactions to the party. Having an undead with you really puts a damper on going to town to shop around equipment or magic items.

Why change the outcome of a spell. If the player really wants his character to become an undead, he takes his chances on the outcome of the spell.

Really, there is a dozen reasons why this is not a good idea, but it is your game and your decision.

1.There are already undead around in the city. They made a whole city just for undead.

2.The necro doesn't control the undead he creates as per RAW under the create undead spell

3.I'm only looking for something to throw together then I'm going to show it to the player if he likes it we use it if not go back to vanilla version of the spell

4.Thanks I had completley forgotten about that monster

5.There has been a lengthy discussion on what this will entail for the party both in and out of game everyone is okay with it.

6.I like my players ideas try not to just rule somehting out without first trying it this particular player is big fan of sleepy hollow so this is mostly for him.

7.I apologize for the list format of this response just makes it easier for me to sort things lol

Fair enough. I think it is a slippery slope that may lead to problems or other players wanting their characters to become undead, but that is supposition on my part and it is your campaign, after all.

Have fun with it then.

Lol if they all became undead thats when the locale paladins and clerics of the goodly gods come take notice see one thing about being undead that sucks is the negative energy thing sure it seems like it may not be a problem but i've played a dhampir in a game before. When your the only one in the party who heals with negative energy its kind of a drag especially since potions of cure are mostly what you get in a dungeon at least if its a pregen dungeon from an AP.

My Dhampire has no problems at all with healing. Mind you, he is a negative energy channeling cleric (Undead Lord) it's the rest of the party that has to worry!

Back to the thread question, Juju are a fairly simple template to add, our GM ruled that one in our game (my minion) looked human enough to pass through town.

Make up a Feat, if the Living can take one that allow them to heal on Negative energy/inflict wounds, undeads should have the option to take one that allow them to heal on Positive energy/cure wounds.

The Zombie Lord template in Broken Moon is another option, it's basically an intelligent unstaggered Zombie that retains class levels.

The OP knows about the similar topic. My guess is Smiles wants more than a straight rules discussion on the topic.
