Why not allow a wordcaster to make a spell that with mass single and an element, to be able to hit every target with a ray.
Other rewarding examples could be a single burst fear grease spell, the primary target is hit with a fear effect and the spell creates an area of slippery yellow liquid in a burst arround the target.
Just some ideas, of course combining more that one effect word might have to come with additional cost.
