Howdy. Got me a hankering for a quickfire shadowrun session. Really simple, haven't played shadowrun in 2 years, so im feeling the itch. Going to keep this basic and straight forward, since im not planning on doing a campaign, just an adventure.
Books allowed: core rulebook only.
build points: 210
Quirks/flaws: max 30 pts
Edge: everyone gets +1 edge for free.
resources: 16F and below is available for purchase. Alphaware can be purchased, if you can afford it, chummer.
Again, this is just a quick and dirty adventure, something to get my shadowrun fix in.
Postings will one per 2 days, since i am in college, work full time, and am a father. If you and the other PCs wish to post more for RP fun, go for it!
any questions, ask away!!!

Well...
I'd want Bodytech for some of the awesome biotech & genetech stuff... I have the book, so I can send you relevant parts if you'd like.
If you have Arsenal, I'd want that for the car and armor customization stuff, mostly (but of course there's other nice stuff, too).
Have found one of my chars, btw. I don't really get yet what all those pages are about, but my c/b-ware pushed sniper (alt: shotgunner) is more or less ready to move out.
Only thing I'd need to do is translating my background and description stuff (you don't happen to speak German, do you?).
If you want to play a high-power group, I'm game, but I'd suggest building with normal BPs and then granting XP and creds on top of that.
Might be easier for the calculations (because iirc the creation rules didn't scale well and had limitations we'd have to change etc.) and for the compatibility of the chars.
Urm, I'd even be inclined to suggest including that newer spy-tech rulebook then... Gives me a reason to get my hands on it ;)
That said, high-power might get a bit more complicated for people not that used to the system (heck, I'll have to read into it again, too ^^).
Cyberwolf2xs
Forgot to add... there are some really good character generation tools for SR4 (that include whole rule paragraphs of all the stuff) so you actually don't really need the books, as long as you don't want to play with all those optional rules like maintenance of c/b-ware etc (which won't be needed in a oneshot anyway).
Cyberwolf2xs
Hmm... I noticed you said 210 BP in your OP, which would be awefully low, and later said 400 BP when you thought about playing high-power...
So I guess you meant default 400 BP character creation, with 210 BP max for attributes...?
But anyway... I don't find the fresh version of the sheet.
Since we only got three players in here anyway, can't we just play with 50 karma and some amount of money? ;)
Oh and btw, what I mentioned as "Bodytech" is the german version of the book "Augmentation". Don't know why they changed the title.
Arsenal is Arsenal, though.
DEWN MOU'TAIN
ive thought about it... let's just go nuts and see what happens.
everyone can use 1,000 build points for character creation. No restrictions on anything.
I have arsenal and augmentation, so just annotate where each this is (book, page) for easy reference for me.
and another thing, you can only take "incompetant" flaw 3 times.
Cyberwolf2xs
1000 BPs... O.O
So the characters are probably... artificially created, genetically optimized lab-critters, right?
And really no restrictions? Like... not having more than one skill at or more than one maxed attribute?
No restriction on how many additional points you can take via flaws?
At least we should agree on restricting contacts... Otherwise you could just invest everything in lifestyle plus contacts and never have to go out on your own... :D
Alright, I'll go build something. Probably something with a SWARM of assault drones. OMG.
(Might have to use some other books for that, but as we lost ground contact already, I reckon it's okay as long as I can quote relevant stuff?)
DEWN MOU'TAIN
genetically enhanced.
I'll drop a hint....this will be taking place in space, on a ship.
the skill level cap is removed, so you could have, for example, a pistol skill of 20. But, the catch is you must take the "legendary Quirk" before going above the max 6.
Attribute max is lifted, a reflection of your new genetic makeup.
Dont worry about contacts, i'll take care of that.

Wait a moment... No skill cap?
And do you mean "no attribute cap" or "more than one attribute @ racial cap" ?Oh, being in space means no magic... Nice.
Cyberwolf2xs
Okay... I think it's too much work for a solo one-shot game.
If you'd like, we could wait if someone else wants to play, but I'd suggest resorting to something more down-to-earth... like normal 400 bp character creation plus 50 karma and 250k ¥ or something (or really just default character creation, I just happen to have a character for the other category ;) - lazy me), as I think we'll have better chances of getting a group together for that.
DEWN MOU'TAIN
Ok. How bout this...
Use the default character build found in the core rulebook. (400 BP's)
I know cyber has alot of supplement books, but what about feytharn and adrik? do you have some supplement books? IF not, then we will start from the core rulebook. If they do, then we will include those books into available resources as well.
Cyberwolf2xs
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Okay.
Btw, I just found this nice little tool for character creation.
It allows you to include/exclude all the rulebooks, set the amount of BP and resource availability, even configure the BP-per-point-ratios of everything, as well as multiple optional & house rules... A great tool!
Cyberwolf2xs
Mmh... Great. Seems my group has always used houserules for character creation... namely, that you can break up a skill group, e.g. spending 30 points to get a rating of 3 in all the skills of the firearms group, then spending 8 points to improve the pistol skill rating to 5 (and probably also taking a specialization on Ares Predator for 2 points), which apparently isn't allowed.
That's crippling some builds, in my opinion, or at least isn't really comprehensible...
Like when you're building a(n) (ex-)soldier, you'd imagine he gets the firearms skill group to represent his basic training, plus an increased rating in one of the weapon skills to represent his specialised sniper training (plus a specialisation because his troop always uses the M82 or sth).
But no... That isn't allowed. You'd have to buy each skill seperately. oO
Ah well, the more you know (the more you think some roleplay-systems are severely flawed)...

I decided to go with the brain-mutant concept, a fellow who was raised in a corporate thinktank immersed in mathematical and arcane theory then spent most of his time in a drug-induced haze where he'd come up with brilliant scientific papers. Eventually he became interested in the rest of the world and grew bored and disillusioned with his gilded prison. He made his escape and has been living with the consequences ever since...
Not a particularly practical concept for most games, but I think it should do fine for a one-off. The program cyberwolf pointed to worked great for generating a character, here's what I came up with:

Garus (as he calls himself now) grew up in one of the sprawls on the southern cost of the CAS.
As his parents had no SIN and couldn't afford sending him to a good school, they were of course quick to accept, when scouts of a self-proclaimed non-profit school support program for awakened children told them they had recognized remarkable magic talent in their son and offered to let him join the program.
Of course he, as his parents did, believed in their promises of a better life, and so he was brought to a remote compound, where he and some other aspirant should to be taught in unified magical theory.
Some time later, Garus' parents died in an accident (at least he was told so), making the program the only thing Garus had left to hang on to. Had he already been soaking up everything the teachers told him, he was now almost obsessed by the arcane knowledge they gave him. And so he didn't realize for quite some time what they were really up to - not when they started shifting the focus from spellcasting to summoning, then to binding, not when they told them about obscure rituals. Only when he was made to participate in a blood sacrifice, he realized that the leaders were really experimenting with the aspirants, trying to form them into a sect, a cult, with the purpose of enslaving spirits via black blood magic.
Garus tried to talk to the others, but quickly realized they had been indoctrined too rigidly. He also couldn't just leave, as they probably had tissue samples of him, enabling the leaders to track him down anywhere.
A while later, an opportunity arose... The night after a ritual to bind a particularly strong spirit failed, partly because he secretly worked against the binding, the spirit came to him and revealed herself as a herald of the dark goddess. In a long talk, they agreed on a mutual pact.
Garus himself doesn't entirely remember the exact course of actions, but the result was that the compound had been burned to the ground with everything that could be used against him or the dark goddess in it, the cultists either dead or caught by the authorities alerted by the magical battle.
In the time after, Garus contacted a orcish-native-american talismerchant, who bought some magic reagents he had taken from the cult and even lent him some extra money so that he could make it to Seattle, in exchange for the promise of doing some jobs or favors for him to pay off his debt.
Now that most of the money is gone - even though he has only used an old workshop, basically not much more then a garage, as his apartment, and his car as his bed - he realizes it is about time that he gets on a job...

Well, haven't heard anything of Dewn.
Anyway, I thought the location was only zurich orbital's evil twin if we did that 1000 bp genetic experiment stuff. Can't really play a space station campaign with standard 400 bp characters, as noone would send a bunch of newbies up there, plus all the problems with magic in space (you need a huge biomass to create a manasphere, otherwise there basically is no magic).
