Welcome to my PbP game. Hope you would have a blast!
Before we start, I would to share some of my general guidelines. (In spoiler tags to not take up space.)
PbP Matters
1. This discussion thread is open for all OOC matters, so no ooc tag needed. For OOC matters in the gameplay thread, please use the [ ooc ] tag.
2. Please post at least once a day on weekdays, and once over the weekends. More frequent postings are certainly welcomed, especially when you roleplay with each other. And on certain days, I would be able be able to respond quite frequently as well. Nonetheless, I would attempt to curb my enthusiasm to resolve encounters at most once a day to give the chance for everyone to respond. If there're no posts from you for a while, I would NPC your character to keep the game going if necessary. If you need to be away for some time, please try to let me know in advance and we'll work out something. I have not yet institute a minimum frequency of posts to receive a chronicle sheet, and I hope not to start. :)
3. If you have played and/or GMed this scenario before, please do not metagame or spoil the plot. And please let me know.
Rolls and Skill Checks
4. I would do your initiative rolls, as well as perception rolls for the purpose of determining surprise (if any).
5. On knowledge checks for general information, I would usually put them in spoilers with the necessary DCs. Just go ahead to roll, and I'll trust that you would resist reading them if the roll fails (or least not to metagame). (Don’t forget that you can make knowledge checks untrained for DC10.) There might be exceptions for plot-critical information though, where I would explicitly ask for knowledge checks. As for knowledge checks for monster lore, please state what kind of information you want in order of preference together with your rolls, and I'll reveal accordingly, e.g. DR, resistances, special attacks, etc. Otherwise, I would reveal what I think your character would be most interested in.
6. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. (And take note of the pros and cons of either.) There might be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to assist) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.
7. On skill checks in general, if I feel you have roleplayed well, e.g. gave a good description of what your character does to search for a trail, came up with creative ways to befriend a hostile NPC, I would give bonuses, or even waive the DC altogether. :)
Roleplaying Matters
8. The maps and handouts link (at the top of the page) would display all the maps, handouts, pictures, etc as the scenario progresses. The most current page would be right on top, while previous ones would be left there for your reference. (Incidentally, Android and IOS has the Google Slides app in case you work off mobile devices.)
9. Please have your full character information up on your character's profile page. Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. Minimally please have your current hp vs max hp, AC (normal, touch and flat-footed), saves and movement. Feel free to include others.
10. Finally, I do enjoy roleplaying more than rollplaying. Whilst I've accepted that PFS games do skew towards the latter, I would strongly encourage posts to be more than simply dice rolls. :)
Getting Started
Ok with that out of the way, a few tasks before we kick off.
A. Go to the Gameplay page and dot.
B. Go to the maps and handouts page and fill out the table there. (Don’t worry about the 3 boxes below the table, i.e. token, initiative and perception. I’ll take care of that.)
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job roll (if any), and share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities. Also, please let me know if you have played this scenario before.
Fantastic!

Kronas Kronglic reporting for duty :)
I'll fill in the table a little nearer the start.

Katswiri, checking in! Will get everything set up over the next few days. Have not played Confirmation before.
Katswiri

Day Job, Craft: Painting: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Kronas Kronglic
|
I have never played Confirmation either.
Day Job, Oratory: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
I just saw your inventory tracking sheet Katswiri, do you mind if I copy it for Kronas?
Katswiri
|
Go for it! I copied it from someone on the forums, then modified it to handle automated tracking of weight and money. Let me know if you have any questions about it or if anything doesn't look right.
Kronas Kronglic
|
Thanks! I couldn't help making a few tweaks myself. The money and weight tracking now takes account of the number of used items (by tacking on some truly hideous looking formulas), and I added a column to say if an item is in his backpack or not (because I'm silly like that).

Hi everyone, looking forward to the game! I've never played this scenario before (this is my first Pathfinder Society experience, actually).
Jedah Dohma

Hi All, Sethran here! I have played this before, Jedah has not been played before.
Kronas Kronglic

Hi guys!
@Vincenza: I'm just finishing my first Pathfinder Society game and it was a blast! You're in good hands here :)
@Jedah: Seems like a colourful chap, Kronas will be pleased!

The combat on the other game is ending at most in a couple of days time, so targetting to start by Friday. Current line-up is:
1. One oracle (thankfully heavily armored)
2. One ranged gunslinger
3. One support bard
4. One ranged kineticist
5. One ranged alchemist
Hmm, let me recruit a martial frontliner for the 6th place, shall I? :)
Ukou Xaio, Unchained

Alright with choices of A, B, and C, I went for D. I remembered I had a fighter with an adventure behind him.

I'll just copy over my overview from the last session I played with Kronas and Link.
Katswiri is a level 1 Lore Oracle, Seer archetype. She specializes in Knowledge Skills and languages, although she only has Arcana, Dungeoneering, History and Nature for now. She is also fairly diplomatic. Her Natural Divination and Focused Trance revelations help her fill an int/cha based skill role, as she can more or less automatically pass 3 out of combat int based skill checks/day due to Focused Trance (+20 to a check after 1d6 rounds of meditation), and get a +10 bonus to one skill check/day from Natural Divination.
In combat, she is mediocre offensively (+1 to hit, 1d8+1 damage, no effective ranged attacks. She has a good armor class, but a bad CMD, thanks to her Sidestep Secret revelation.
Katswiri has the deaf curse, so she can not hear. Mechanically, that means she takes a -4 penalty to initiative checks (for a total of -6), automatically fails perception checks based on sound, takes a -4 penalty to opposed perception checks (so is currently at a -3 perception check to notice ambushes/hiding creatures and the like) and is immune to language-dependent spells such as suggestion or command and certain other sound based spells and abilities like the stun from Sound Burst (including beneficial effects, such as audible Bardic Performances). Her curse does give all her spells the Silent Spell metamagic for free without increasing cast time, so she does not suffer from the 20% spell failure chance for casting a spell with a verbal component.
The biggest downside to being deaf, however, is normal communication in combat and social environments. Katswiri has learned to read lips (FAQ here: http://paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/faq#v5748eaic9os8), so in good lighting she can understand people within 10 feet of her who talk in a language she understands. In poor lighting conditions, further distances or if someone tries to avoid having their lips read, she has to make a perception check to understand them (DC set at discretion of the GM). She may ask for one of her companions to repeat anything said if we are ever in an audience situation where we're watching someone outside normal conversation distance, or if we run into things that speak without lips.
I think that's most of the relevant crunchy information about Katswiri's abilities. From a fluff perspective, Katswiri is a Garundi woman who grew up alone in the Osiron desert after her parents died when she was young, who survived because of her oracle powers manifesting. She has a passion for learning of all kinds, and was recruited into the pathfinder society (specifically, the Scarab Sages faction) when her academic excellence was noticed while performing research into history and magic at one of Osiron's prominent universities.
I am looking forward to playing with everyone!

Ok! The other game has ended so once Kronas and Link checks in at the gameplay thread, we'll get started. Of course, with the holiday weekend, I expect things to start slow. No pressure! Please spend time with your family and friends! Happy Thanksgiving to all Americans!

Hi guys, I have a bit of a technical question. I understand that PFS play lets you rebuild characters at level 1 or below for free, and I was thinking about changing Kronas' stats a little bit. Looking at the way the first game went, I feel that WIS 7 might be a bit too low (he might be impulsive but he does at least have some common sense) and was wondering how I'm supposed to make it official. If I'm allowed to do before we start this session properly, do I just put a note at the end of my last chronicle sheet?
GM kuey
|
There's no need to any official record. So long as your character hasn't levelled up to level 2, just readjust before the scenario starts and you're good to go. Even for equipment, you can sell them back for 100% full price, rather than the usual 50%.
Kronas Kronglic
|
That makes things easy, thanks :)
Katswiri
|
I think I would like to buy 6 days of trail rations, a silver dagger, two scrolls of Air Bubble, and a potion of Touch of the Sea, for a total of 125 gp. Does that sound good?
Kronas Kronglic
|
Kronas will buy a sling, 20 bullets, 2 flasks of alchemists fire, marbles, silk rope, and a sack to put it all in. That should be a total of 50.4gp if that's OK.
I thought a blowgun might be more fun as a ranged option for Kronas, but I can't think of a way to make it useful :)
Katswiri
|
How do the notes work, exactly? Should I be taking specific notes, or just mentioning that Katswiri is recording things?
Katswiri does most of her note taking as painted pictures, which I can't actually do. In her previous pathfinder missions, I've generally just mentioned she takes depictions of interesting things (like the sarcophagus from our last mission). Is that the kind of note taking you're talking about, or should I be taking more explicit notes down?
| kuey |
Go ahead and roleplay it in game however way you wish. At the end, in game, Kreighton will collect your notes. Game mechanics-wise, you can put in ooc comments your report in brief point form. You can also upload in the Google slides if you prefer. In Katswiri case, I would imagine a few drawings, each which depict certain findings, so you (as the PC) can probably just briefly describe each picture.
In some of my other games, some of the PCs are "taking notes" in their journal in game along the way. That way, at the end of the scenario, I'll just look back through the forum. You might prefer that.
I'm quite lenient for this for PbP as the mechanics doesn't lend itself well. In a RL game, it's easier 'cos I'll just collect whatever the players have scribbled along the way. :)
Kronas Kronglic

Just a note on Kronas' skills, I forgot to update them when I changed his stats. His perception is actually +5. I changed the handouts page accordingly ;)
Katswiri

Katswiri is very bad at throwing things, so will pass on the various alchemical thrown items. The only item on the list she definitely wants is the scroll of obscuring mist.
The potion of Barkskin could be handy, as she can tank a narrow corridor very well already and we have a lot of ranged firepower to shoot over her, but it might also be good to give to Ukou since he's the most directly on the front line. Ukou, do you want it, or should Katswiri take it?
She would also be interested in the antitoxin unless someone else wants it. She has a pretty bad fort save and is likely to be in front to be poisoned, and has had a bad experience with poison in the past.
I think those are the only items she would express any interest in, unless noone else wants the CLW wand?
Kronas Kronglic
|
Kronas cannot use the scrolls and since he isn't planning to be on the front line, the potions might not be so useful for him either. The Tanglefoot bag might be quite nice, but obviously the Alchemist can have first dibs on splash weapons and the like.
Vincenza Santorini
|
Vincenza is really good at throwing things (she has throw anything), so I think she'll take the alchemist's fire and acid if no one has any objections. Kronas can have the bag, it doesn't actually do damage, so no boost for splash damage. Vincenza can also use the CLW wand to heal others since her extracts only work on herself.
Kronas Kronglic
|
Makes sense. Kronas is focused on controlling a fight, so I think he'll pick up the thunderstone too so that he can try and minimise the effect of opposing magic users.
@Jedah: How would a thunderstone affect your character? Does it ruin his magic if he if deafened? Could be useful information if we get in a bind :)
Jedah Dohma
|
@Kronas - Jedah's magic isn't exactly magic ^^ so he wouldn't be as worse as anyone else. The occult classes are all oddities.
I'm fine without the alchemical weapons and can't use the scrolls or wand so I will pass ^^. I wouldn't mind the feather step potion or vanish if no-one else minds, needing to be close to things can be scary!
Kronas Kronglic
|
OK guys, we still haven't decided who is carrying Janira's backpack. Kronas would like the honour, but I don't think he'd be able to take the extra weight (unless he is able to stuff it in his sack perhaps). Are there any volunteers?
I wouldn't mind the feather step potion or vanish if no-one else minds, needing to be close to things can be scary!
Hehe, I bet it is! :)
Kronas Kronglic
|
Who's Begrilda? Was that the wrong update GM?
Kronas Kronglic
|
Hehe, no worries :)
Kronas Kronglic
|
I was so tempted to make Kronas just run up to the Gillman waving and shouting greetings, but decided to hold back just in case y'all wanted a more subtle approach :)
Kronas Kronglic
|
Not quite what I had in mind... But then again, what's the Pathfinder Society's stance on kidnapping? :)
Kronas Kronglic
|
True. I didn't think of it that way.
Katswiri
|
So, Katswiri would like to meditate on the water if possible, but if I got my time right, I think we're still in the daytime. She should be good to keep exploring the rest of the caves and see if we can find Janira in the meantime.
GM kuey

Thanks for the game, everyone! Here are the chronicles. Will also put a link at the top of the page. Please let me know if there're any errors. Vincenza, I think this is your first game? Have prepared a Welcome to Pathfinders chronicle for you as well.
Kronas Kronglic
|
Thanks Kuey! Thanks everybody, it was fun to read through all your notes.
I am definitely a convert to Society play... I just need to tweak Kronas a bit, I'm not sure he did anything useful this time :)
Katswiri
|
Yup, thanks for the fun game everyone, and thanks for running it Kuey! I had a good time. I hope I get a chance to play with some of you again in the future. Feel free to message me if you're looking for a player and Katswiri isn't in a game.

Oh, right; Kuey, how did the diplomacy attempt with Uori go? That should be high enough to recruit him, assuming he is a valid choice for the faction card goal.

Terribly sorry, I forgot to roll my Dayjob! Can't believe i missed it ><.

Oh, right; Kuey, how did the diplomacy attempt with Uori go? That should be high enough to recruit him, assuming he is a valid choice for the faction card goal.
I think the DC is in the respective journal card?
Is this the one?
"Recruit a named NPC scholar, archaeologist, extraplanar authority, or similar figure to join the Scarab Sages. Recruitment
requires a Diplomacy or Knowledge (local) check (DC = 15 + your character level)."
If so then you've succeeded.
