"Meridith, that was beautiful", Miriel whispers to the druid lady. "You are so determined in battle, and still compassionate to the oppressed. Like paladins should be, as I was taught."

Miriel continues speaking in a low voice, now partly to herself: "It is a sad testament to the society that all people are not free. Though, we shouldn't encourage rebellion, which would just lead to a greater suffering. With rash actions everyone would just be worse off. But to find a way to better the lives of all, it is so hard, so hard."

Gasper seems most taken with Giovanni. He twirls his fantastic moustache and takes the compliments in his stride.

"My lad, train hard, and you too may one day have half my skills."

He points to his half dozen camels, all laden down with a variety of weaposn. "But know that skill with holding weapons will bring you only fame. Skill in selling them is what brings wealth."

Unfortunately, as this is Core, I can't let you buy stuff not directly in the Core rulebook, so a generic +2 fort vs hot weather item is not allowed.

The caravan gathers in the cold hour before dawn and sets out northwest just as the first bit of pink touches the eastern horizon. The pathfinders despite their name are not given the position at the front, but rather at the rear of the caravan, eating sand and dust.

The day is brutally hot.
To speed things up, time for fortitude saves, four before the midday rest, DC is 15,61,17 and 18; it goes up by four more if you wear anything more than light clothes. Endurance, Tireless and similar traits and feats are very helpful here. Those who make a survival check (DC 15) can add +2 to their fort save, and maybe able to help others if they score high enough (one extra person for each two points they exceed 15 by)

Miriel is trying to seem determined by stoically staying at saddle, not even looking at shadows. Her hummed prayers seem to give her some strength to endure the heat.

"Hmm. Only recently have I experienced my own freedom." Meredith speaks to Miriel. "Hope and anger were the only things that kept me going on those cold, bitter nights. If I could, I would lift that boy away from here. For now, all I can assure is his safety." Meredith spends some of the night and morning helping the boy with some of his tasks.

In the morning, Meredith casts Endure Elements on herself to tolerate the heat. The sunlight is especially nice. She also spends her time looking for what little plant growth she can locate, and conjuring water for anyone who asks.

Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Meredith spends her time helping others against the intense heat. "Wear loose garments. You either want very light or very dark cloth. Let the wind cool you. Yes, I'm cheating; the desert sun has granted me mercy today."

With Endure Elements I don't think Meredith needs the Fort Saves. But just in case:

Waking in the morning Calvin strips himself over all be the bare essentials, removing his armor and stowing his larger weapons on the camel. Kevan is a mess in the heat. He is clearly not suited for this environment, more used to seeking shade in taverns and bars where his god dwelled. The priest is nearly melted by the time the midday's sun is scorching them.

Dang, not even level 2 to have Create Water as a cantrip.

As the caravan sets out into the sweltering morning, Pimwrick takes the heat in stride, noting how Meredith is assiduously helping the others to withstand the heat. He's quite pleased - at first - by how well he's handling the harsh desert conditions, as it's something he's not experienced before. This self-satisfaction is short-lived, however, and he soon begins to feel that he's melting like a fat, tallow candle under the glare of the sun as it rises higher in the sky.

"Not feelin' so good, Miriel," he says to his elf friend as they travel. "How are you looking so fresh and comfortable?"

For each failed save, the characters take 1d4 non lethal damage.

Hot and bothered, around midday the caravan calls a halt to travel. Tents are put up and everyone is encouraged to rest in the shade for the hottest part of the day.

Late in the afternoon the tents are taken down again, and the group sets off once again.

Even on camel-back the heat is blisteringly hot. You are all glad you are not walking bare footed on the sand. And while I could get you to do more fort rolls for the afternoon, apart from the amusement value of seeing pathfinders fall from the camels from heat stroke, I see little value to it, as you'll recover the hp overnight.

That evening Hokama offers each person a slice of watermelon "From my own personal supply." which is generally gratefully received. Mahmoud sits and talks a bit with Gaspar, and it is obvious the men have known each other for years. "The heat is like a dwarven forge working overtime!" he can be heard complaining.

Any plans for the evening? Also those who want to make survivial checks for tomorrow may as well roll them now in advance (but not the fort saves) as that will help you work out who is aiding-another with who

Masterwork Tools are actually Core, but it's up to the individual GMs to allow the item the player has chosen, or to restrict it in a way they feel is balanced (HERE is a good thread on the topic). As it's incredibly limited in functionality, and takes up a Slot, and costs substantially more than a Hot Weather Outfit, it's not an unreasonable request, but I will defer to your call.

Anyone wants Endure Elements for the next day? Speak up before Meredith's bedtime! First person gets it.

"Yes, Calvin. I fought for my freedom about eight years ago. My master was not kind to me, or any of my friends." Meredith pauses, flexing her fingers subconsciously. Many of us died, many slaves became slavers. If it weren't for the Pathfinder Society capturing me, haha." She shakes her head.

Ever the opportunist, Giovanni snuggles next to the charismatic brunette.

"I am no craftsman by any measure, m'lady, so I shall not tell a tall tale of how I hewn this flute myself from some ancient branch. I did, however, spend years getting its tuning just right."

Placing his lips on the flute within inches of Miriel, so she can best see how he plays, Giovanni spends a few minutes playing basic notes, transitioning by the end into the start of a soft melody.

Miriel follows intensely the bard playing, her eyes widening when he gets to the thoroughly mastered melody. "That, that was beyond words. You are so great", she whispers, astonished. She takes the flute, holding it in her hands, examining the masterful craftmanship. "Such a piece of art, for making art." Miriel gently runs her fingers over the flute, feeling the exceptional wood. She looks shyly at Giovanni: "I don't know, should I dare...", then raises the flute and plays a gentle note. "The sound is so pure", she sighs, and tries to replicate the bard's melody.

Miriel looks at the sandstorm, and a expression of concern passes on her face. "No, please. I cannot make it without guide." When the sandstorm hits, she digs out her wayfinder, a gift from her confirmation ceremony. She tries to fiddle the device to get herself back on track. "Nono, how did this thing work? I point that there, and we were going toward sun, or was it left of sun? Right? Where is the stupid sun anyway? Shelyn, help me!"

Miriel has a moment of panic when she thinks she has lost the rest of the group, but the Pathfinder ethos of cooperation is firm within the team and she is quickly located.

You are able to draw nearer to the water seller’s camels during a slight lull in the storm. A cry from the merchant’s young slave rings out as he points into the blowing sand where several humanoid creatures approach, most smaller than humans and all muffled in heavy robes. Each stranger’s head has a great helm wrapped in keffiyehs, and each faceplate has only a small eye slit to keep out the fury of the storm. Each holds a curved sword, and it is clear they are converging on your position.

The sands continue to blow, half blinding the pathfinder team!
Okay, you can move yourself around inside the white dotted box. In front are the camels, (who provide cover). Now technically the scenario says you are at -2 to melee and spot checks and -4 to ranged attacks as you don't have special desert helmets. However as at least one of you tried to get exactly that, and it isn't available in Core, I'm going to reduce them to just -2 to missile combat from the wind.

The icons in white are Hokama, Atmar and his two drovers. You have no idea where the rest of the caravan is.

Pimwrick charges a goblin and chops it in two, while Meredith also says a short prayer (albeit one that sounds a little more sinister) and advances.

Calvin shows some tactical nouse and sets a spear, ready to repel any approaching gobins while Giovanni starts to tell a for-once-relevant story.

Miriel notices Calvin looks distressed, and moves next to him, drawing her curve blade on the way. With time those who can summon water can help remove the heat damage if I remember correctly. I think the fatigued condition lasts as long as the NL damage

Two goblins advance on Meredith and attack her..
attacks: 2d20 ⇒ (5, 11) = 16
But she easily avoids their clumsy attacks.

The hobgoblin behind fires a bow at one of the drovers
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
The arrow sinks into the camel providing him cover.

The two goblins in red advance, attacking another drover and Giovani
attack: 2d20 ⇒ (8, 12) = 20
Both miss.

One of the blue goblins attacks Giovanni..
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
But the swordsman again deflects the blow.

The next two aim for Miriel.
attack: 2d20 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6

The last goblin in blue tries to take out the fearsom Pimwrick
attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
The scimitar slices into him
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Lastly the two hobgoblins to the south take pot shots at Calvin and Kevan.
attacks: 2d20 ⇒ (14, 3) = 17
And Calvin also takes a wound
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Actually I think I messed that up and gave Meredith Miriel's readied action. So Miriel can take her readied action if you like.
