Vitæ Somnium |
(Or both, sure. Could be both.)
In a DM game probably both. ; )
Four Levels of something with a level of Expert or 2 in the mix.
I am so happy none of us are dead. Yet.

The bard, still trying to figure who she is and where she is, continues to squeeze her knees to her chest as she watches the strange woman in the cell with her as she takes the keys and begins to unlock the cell door.
Oracle with No Name |
Nameless drops the keys, and bends to pick them up, her hands shaking. She glances back at the woman huddled in the back of the cell: We're getting out of here. I don't know you -- or myself for that matter -- but I am willing to trust you. And, she says, looking out at the scene in the corridor, the others need our help. If we are going to get to safety, we have to work together. She offers a faint smile that quickly fades, and then returns to the lock.
"HeE-hEe-HoOm. ThAt'S tHe SpIrIt (gEt It?)! DeAtH wIlL NoT fEeD tOdAy!"
The pale woman freezes, then looks back with slight panic to the woman in the corner. Please tell me you heard him say that.
Vitæ Somnium |
What was the definition of insanity again? Attempting something repeatedly and expecting a different result?
Vitæ maintains his Stare on the doctor (?) even if his efforts seem to have little effect.
Our captor has a strong will, but given that he has trapped Dream then that would be expected.
Vitæ already took a 5' foot step out of the cell last round, he will move to 10' of the doctor and his new (?) allies.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Now that he is out of the cell, he is looking for useful things, or clues about the area, or if anyone not in the immediate vicinity may have heard the commotion we are causing.
Motioning to the women in the next cell but keeping his eyes on the felled doctor, "Perhaps it is time you join us, I seem to recall some saying about 'strength in numbers' as well as 'best not leave men to their own devices'."
Holding Standard action please, Daze with Hypnotic Stare DC 14, Range 30 feet to be cast when the doctor (?) again when she attempts to get up.
Ghelik the Sly |
DM_DM if I can position myself with the glass shard so that I will get an AOO if she tries to get up I would like to be there. Also would like to be able to 5' shift into the flank next round even if it is into the grease area.
Fritz Fritzman |
Yes!
1d20 - 1 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (15) - 1 + 3 + 4 = 21 for 1d3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7
Fritz tries to slam time Dr in the chin
DM_DM |
Now, the doctor failed her save and slipped from the Grease. But she still gets to act this turn. She could try to stand up as a standard action. However, instead she's going to attempt a grapple check against Fritz. Here she goes: 1d20 ⇒ 19
With a snarl, the doctor's swings her leg in an arc and knocks the paladin's feet out from under him. The two of them are now rolling around on the ground.
Fritz, the doctor is slender but she's much stronger than she looks. It's like wrestling a sack of wildcats. As you grapple, she spits out bits of disconnected phrases: "Filthy Before! Dead flesh! Ungrateful! Cut you!"
[ooc]Fritz's blow would still have struck home, so I'd say he manages to get in one good punch.[ooc]
Vitæ Somnium |
"Press our advantage! She may have her own allies near!"
Dr. Malpractice has taken 16 damage, DM likes challenging his players so probably another 20+ more should do the trick. But we have a man down and part of the party still locked up. We need finish her off before she gets back up and starts bringing the pain.
DM did the last Perception roll (26) indicate anything new, since I am out of the cell? Also is there an area I could get to that would give the Rogue a flank? I should not enter the Grease area though. And I attempted Daze again.
Fritz Fritzman |
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 Fritz attempts to take control of the grapple.
Sadly Fritz wind up just sliding around, and finds the Dr. on top of him, and solidly in control.
DM_DM |

For future reference, Perception isn't normally a free action. Otherwise you'd be making Perception rolls every round and basically taking 20. So you paused to take a hard look around, which means you're not casting Daze this round.
On the plus side, your eyes widen as you look beyond the operating table and see... stuff. At the end of the corridor there's a corner. And there's a big pile of stuff, part of which you can see, part of which is out of sight around the corner. There are clothes, boots, boxes, furniture both intact and broken, bloody sheets... and a gleam of light on steel, suggesting the presence of one or more weapons.
Avoiding the Greased area: the operating table is in a wide spot in the corridor -- 15' wide, so the table is in the middle with 5' clearance on either side. Grease hits a 10' square. Therefore, with your Round 4 move action you can go around the table on the ungreased side, either to set up a flank for next round or to go investigate the pile of stuff. Unless you say otherwise, I'll assume you do that.
Oracle with No Name |
If we are free from our cell on round 4 and can take action, Nameless will head cautiously around the outer edge of the makeshift operating theater and cast Light on an object centrally located in the room.

Wow, that's a new rule I learned, not aware of that at all. Like a Knowledge check you make in combat. Thanks.
Yes I will flank with the Rogue if I can gingerly cross away from the Grease spot, and give him a chance to win the day.
Vitæ Somnium |
cast Light on an object centrally located in the room.
The doctor's chest?
"Hurry now, it's time to send this one to the Dreamlands."
Ghelik the Sly |
Ghelik waits for one second as the doctor wrestlers her way on top of Fritz. It's that moment, with her back towards him, that he then tries to drive the glass shard into her .
Shard attack (improvised weapon) flanking prone opponent 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 4 + 4 + 2 = 23 Damage 1d3 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (5) = 6
The Glass shard slides into her back...he hears her breath change as the surprise of it hits her...with more that a little satisfaction he gives it one more push driving it to the edge of his hand before twisting and pulling it out.
Eat that yer b1tch!
Kyleen |
The bard continues to huddle in the corner of her cell watching the others as they attack the strange deranged blood covered butcher.
Action - Delay
Playing her as someone who does not know who she is, does not know what is going on, and thinks that the others have the crazed woman under control.
DM_DM |
Light has a range of touch, so the Oracle must have picked up some small object to cast it. If nothing else, the tiles of the floor have been broken in several places. (By the earthquake? Not clear.) So you can pick up a piece of broken tile. However, you're standing on the opposite side of the table from the two wrestlers, which means they're in sudden shadow...
Kyleen |
Round 5
Seeing that the struggle with the is still going on, the bard gets to her feet, feeling in incredibly good health considering her complete lack of recollection as to who she is, and begins to move toward the others battling he woman on the ground.
Move - stand
Move - move 30'

What woman?
-- There are two people grappling on the ground. But they are completely identical to each other.

That's cool!
I mean, oh oh!
Vitæ Somnium |
Vitæ was staring at one of the combatants, can he determine which is which, mystic grain of sand that he is, he has Darkvison.
This is worrisome. Imagine a few more of these things running around in here with us.
Vitæ Somnium |
Free action, if you please.
"The murderous wanton wench just doused the only damned light source and transformed herself!"
I'm hoping the real Fritz takes a split second to look at me to furrow his brow to frown his disapproval of my language.
And then Daze please. Most definitely that.

Apologies, didn't know I needed to confirm.
Round 4
Nameless picks up a piece of tile and holds it high over her head, whispering something unintelligible. A warm glow starts to emit from the piece of tile, slowly increasing in magnitude until the small corridor is well lit for all.
Round 5
She scans the room, looking for the safest vantage point and anything else to help them against this monstrous ... double-Fritz. Or is that Fritz-double? No, not again ... wait. It's not just me who can see this?
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 (move action)
Delay second move/standard action for now.
Vitæ Somnium |
Do you still want to cast Daze?
Was going to wait to see if one of them says something about language used above.
Does Vitæ have a connection via the Hypnotic Stare? If so then he will cast Daze for what little good it will do. Her saves are crushing it. And possibly 6 hit dice.
"That's not you, is it Fritz?'
Fritz Fritzman |

Can't you head butt her, er you, with vigor?
DM_DM |
1d20 ⇒ 10
The two are grappling on the ground. “There is sure to be some light of goodness in you, let it spark and grow!" shouts the one on the bottom. He aims a punch at the other one, but it doesn't seem to do any harm. "Stop this madness!”
The one on top shakes his head as if confused. "Um... I..."
DM_DM |
Round 5She scans the room, looking for the safest vantage point and anything else to help them against this monstrous ... double-Fritz. Or is that Fritz-double? No, not again ... wait. It's not just me who can see this?
The Big Pile of Stuff is a mixture of garbage and waste, some of it disturbing (there are a *lot* of bloody sheets), furniture, boxes, broken wood scraps, junk, and... stuff.
Wait a moment. You... you recognize some of that stuff. You don't know from where, but you've seen it before.
You started with Stuff 2. That means your starting equipment is mixed into that pile! However, it will take several minutes of sorting through the junk to find all of it. Finding any given item in a hurry ("my sword") will take a full round of rummaging and a DC 20 Perception check. If you fail the check, there's a 20% chance you find a comparable item (someone else's sword), a 50% you find d3 random items that are intact but may or may not be useful, and a 30% chance you find nothing this round.
Ghelik the Sly |
Now that there is light, Ghelik looks to see if one of them doesn't look or act like the man who was just wrestling the women.
Move action perception. perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
I heard your name was Fritz, you better speak up or I will kill the both of yers'
Ready and action to stab the one that speaks properly.

Vitæ Somnium |
Next round, avoiding the Grease, Vitæ will attempt an awkward swing if the top Fritz tries to get up.
unarmed strike: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
nonleathal damage: 1d3 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 + 1 = 1
"The one above is the false one, the shape shifter who means to do us harm! I think I finally made 'her' pause, but she will come to her senses in but a moment. Keep track of her, focus your energies against the one on top!"
Vitæ Somnium |
Merp. Nat 1. Excellent.
Obviously I am the last one picked at gym class.
Kyleen |
Proceeding toward the sound of wrestling, the bard is unsure which combatant is which, but decides that encouraging the real Fritz, who sounds like the one all the rest of the prisoners are supporting cannot be a bad ides.
Fritz is strong, he's our man. Bet the butcher wished she ran.
Knock her down, take her out. Sock her right in the snout.
The bard wonders where the words came from and hopes that her new companions do not toss her back into a cell considering how cheesy the words sound.
Action - Inspire Courage
Last round Kyleen got up and moved out of the cell as far as she could. This round she will keep moving toward the combatants, while starting an inspire courage performance.
DM_DM |
"Bananas and crickets!" yells Top Fritz. "Stop! Stop! I'm trying to apprehend, this... wrongdoer!"
"Jumping jellywillies!" yells Bottom Fritz "This is not how I expected this to go!"
1d20 ⇒ 15 The grapple suddenly turns into a roll. The two Fritzes turn over and over... once? Twice? In the flickering light it's hard to be sure.
Now you're... um, about 80% sure that the one on top now is the same one who was on top before? So, 80% x 80% = 64% sure that's the bad one? Not much better than random guessing...
1d20 ⇒ 20 Whoa! One of them threw a punch! 1d20 ⇒ 10
Oracle with No Name |
Nameless holds high the tile and moves to keep the fighters in view. She glances down at the man restrained to the table, and starts to loosen a bond. We should save him, he ... "HoLd ThErE, pOpPeT! tHeRe SeEmS tO bE tRiCkErY aFoOt - WhAt If ThIs OnE iS aLsO ... hEh ... tRiCkSy. Hm?"
The pale oracle freezes before undoing any of the bonds of the man. It hadn't occurred to her that in this horrible place - everyone could be not as they seem. Fear passes across her features. Is anything real? Trickery? Could it be magical? If others are seeing it ... If I'm not mad, and can make light from nothing, maybe ... Stepping back from the table, she stares intently in a direction so that both the man on the table and the Rolling, Fighting Fritzes are in her field of view.
Cast Detect Magic to look for any magical auras on the Fritzes, the man on the table - anything and everyone in her cone of view. Not looking for specific details about spell IDs, more just the presence of magical auras.
