Round 9, Init 1
Dandi's gaze narrows and her hair arches high overhead and twists tightly together. The tip jerks back and forth like a worm, then points sharply at the rat in the hole in the wall:
"By the quirk of the vermin's tail, I'll watch you fumble, I'll make you FAIL!"
Dandi casts bungle(DC14, Will) at Girrigz.
DM_Euan
Majenko flies above Nikolay and tries to lend some aid to his swings 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 vs AC10 to give +2 to hit. Charlie casts shield of faith on himself and prepares for the worst. Dandilion tries to trip up the wererat. Fondo just misses the mark with a very solid blow. Barael swings twice, and manages, barely, to connect with his back swing! Nikolay swings, but even with aid, cannot quite pierce the toast. Briar slides nonchalantly past Girrigz and into the next room.
Briar sees several crates, mismatched boxes, and poorly kept weapons lie stacked and scattered about this dingy stone chamber. Pinned to the side of one stack is a crudely sketched map of Korvosa with battle plans. A large rat’s nest, strewn with moldy pillows, fills an elevated hollow in the south wall.
Girrigz Willpower 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 vs DC 14

Girrigz bite on Barael 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Ignoring the parties missives now and shaking off the spell, Girrigz bites his lip with aggression and the blood mixes with the foam coming from his mouth. He presses his attack ever more fervently on Barael trying for one more deed to carry triumphantly into death. He grins wildly as his first strike rings true, and enjoys mixing his blood with Baraels on the bite. As he fights there's a slight popping about his body as a spell duration ends.

Growing ever more enraged, Fondo shouts his challenge at the wererat.
"LEAVE MY BROV ALONE, BEAST!" Activating Challenge: +1 to damage for Fondo, +1 circumstance bonus for you others to hit Girrigz for the rest of this combat.
Fondo scrapes the edge of his rapier against the cavern wall, sending a shower of sparks into Girrigz' face in an attempt to blind him.

Briar leans against the wall next to Barael, watching Barael's blood splatter on the floor and walls, his grunts of pain, combat, and anger words echoing in the squeezed spot.
"So Barael, you going to finish this rat off, or what?" Briar asks, scratching his neck with the wand.
"Did you want help?"
Briar awaits an answer.
Briar will tap Barael with the wand.

Majenko flies above Nikolay and tries to lend some aid to his swings 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 vs AC10 to give +2 to hit. Charlie delays, looking for a way to heal his comrade (as per ooc discussion). Dandilion uses her hair to aid Barael's AC 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 4 = 8 vs AC 10 (DMPC). Fondo challenges the wererat but failed to blind him though he does lend aid to Nikolay. The still blurry Girrigz presses his attack more fervently on Barael. He's bleeding freely from several cuts and scrapes and has no one to help him. He presses his attack with full strength and vigor slashing three times at Barael's flesh with his tiny dagger and biting with his big sharp teeth.

Yelling over Barael, Briar gives some lip over the din of combat.
"Hey Waif! We got this! I got this...I'm talking Barael through the pain right now. He really wants this one without being blown to the Abyss."
Briar shakes his head and returns his attention to Barael.
"Yeah, that's some good blood you got there. You got more to give? Or did you want some help?"

Majenko looks around the room for any other opponents sneaking up on the party, Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17. Charlie delays looking for a chance to heal someone. Dandilion throws a bomb which misses and splashes Fondo for 5hp. Fondo misses, but does successfully aid Nikolay. Barael aids Fondo for next round, but…. Nikolay strikes down Girrigz with a mighty blow and a harrow point! And it would bypass concealment, but it was only a 20% miss chance in any event. Briar heals poor Barael a little more.
Girrigz tries for one more swing, but just can't manage it before falling to the ground in a bloody and somewhat burned heap. Though down and bleeding fast, he is still breathing even with the load of damage done to his poor frame.
We are out of initiative, but I'm still counting round in the event you want to stop Girrigz from bleeding out. He's quite feral, so be careful... he might get back up and resume his attacks!

Barael observes the transformation. He squats down, and pulls back the Varisian's lips, observing the now human gums and teeth. Barael sighs.
Is he still Blurred?

I really need to get a better handle on the magics I possess.

In the complex the party finds enough weaponry and gear to equip a decent sized skirmish force. You find 22 daggers, 15 short swords, 5 light crossbows, 60 black metal bolts, 8 chain shirts, 12 flasks alchemist fire, a masterwork silver dagger, a master work longsword, and a masterwork suit of chainmail.
Among the magics are Girrigz's chain shirt, his rapier, and in his lair four potions and a bottle.

Nikolay cleans up the chain shirt and looks around for objections before he starts to put it on. He also looks over the chainmail and saves it for the future.
Soon (as in level 7) I should try some heavier armor. With my combined spell casting and sword swinging, I'm rarely dashing around like the others.
I see our agile fighters, Barael and Fondo, with mithral chain shirts already. Dandilion is only wearing studded leather, which I'm not sure was a lack of funds or roleplaying decision. However, she's usually safe in the back. I'm happy to pass on the chain shirt at level 7 or sell it for group funds then.

Silvered rapier or silversheen? If there's no damage penalty he'll be keeping his hand on it as though its already his.
"Im glad you're alive, brov, though you look a mite pale. Charlie, have you healing for our friend here?" He looks at his own wounds and adds, "My own could use a touch or two as well."
He looks around at the motley party. "Well fought, all. Nik, Barael, we make quite a front flank. With a bit more practice we'll get the kinks worked out. Friend elf, you've some fancy footwork and... Are those your arrows in yon otyugh? Dandi, I'm glad that your heart still burns for me." He smiles and gives the waif a hug. She's going to get me killed.
"Now, we've killed the troublemaker. Lets see to making peace with his brethren."
Dandilion Dreamstruck
Actually, Dandi isn't wearing armor anymore and should return it to the armory.
Dandi rushes to Fondo's side, then nearly skids to a stop, hanging her head a bit as she sees the damage she's inflicted (again) "Oh Fondo! I'm sorry, I thought I had you all clear. I think I must have slipped in something to send my aim so wide." She gives him an extra squeeze as he seems to take it all in stride. He won't always, though. I've got to get better at this. or they need to get a better me.
Barael de Gare
Barael picks up the MW silver dagger, motions to the others in offer to anyone to take it. If no one does, he works it into his wrist sheath.
"We gave him a chance to stand down, right? We were talking words he should have understood. What kind of madness he have, drove him to give up his life like that?" Barael looks over the blurred body. "What, does the blurring rattle his head too much?"
Barael begins to wrap up the daggers as best he can, to make sure that whatever they're leaving behind can't be used to Girrigz's or his successor's ends. "What do we do with all these weapons? Can't just leave em."
Looking over at the otyugh, Barael notes the shafts, and ribs Briar for his rear cover. "Glad to know you were back there."
Briar the Lesser
Briar holds up the bottle and sniffs at it.
"What a useless item, right? What use could smoke ever be in combat?"
Briar is happy to hand over the bottle to whomever wants it.
"It's magic. Somewhat powerful magic, but I have my own magics to create effects like it."
Briar goes to recover his silver arrows, then spends some time examining the Korvosan map.

Barael de Gare
As Fondo approaches Barael with the rapier, Barael considers. "It's a Varisian's blade, ain't it? Asides, I'd like something like this dagger, 'cept longer, so I do more than pierce hides." Grins back
"Aroden blesses you, Majenko, for your ministrations." Barael tries to pat Majenko on some small shoulder of his.
Barael looks over all the blades. "Shouldn't be too hard to navigate back the way we came with most of this, store it at the House until we know what Saul will make of all it."
"If we gather up the maps and plans, could we inform Cressida of their activities, in case there are rogue rats trying to make trouble?"
Fondo Barondo
"I'm sure Saul'll make good use of this, then." Why anyone would choose a magic silvered rapier, I will never know... "Yes, let's gather — and study — the maps." Fondo does so, with keen interest. He attempts to make sense out of them.

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 Perception
What are the black metal bolts that were mentioned above? Black metal what?
DM_Euan
You have searched the entire complex, such as it is. The other grate, which is up, leads deeper into the sewers. Without a guide, directions, etc. you could become lost. In any event the wererats are long gone down the tunnel scurrying along, well, like rats in a maze.
The map (singular) is a crudely drawn map of the Midland district of Korvosa, with a few cryptic symbols presumably where entrances to the Vault lay. You imagine that there was likely a plan of some kind, but little of it actually made it to print. Girrigz seemed more of an 'off the cuff' leader.
The black bolts are simply of a blackened steel alloy. Likely they would have been a trademark or calling card perhaps. Hard to know for sure. They do not provide any benefit or hindrance over other bolts. They are not cold iron for instance.
It occurs to Barael that to notify Cressida formally, and suggest there may be rogue wererats under the city planning some sort of insurrection would almost certainly lead to exactly the kind of Vault invasion and purge that Eries was hoping to avoid by coming to you to solve the problem. That said, you may certainly take what evidence you have to the Field Marshal.
Briar the Lesser
Briar nods to the Varisian in agreement.
"I will enjoin at Saul's to see the equipment...and maybe place an order."
Briar holds up the bottle, (the smoking one, Charlie, there is no alcohol in this one), and queries the group.
"Did we want to keep this? For me, I like to see my foes. But others may prefer the cover of smoke."
Barael de Gare
Barael crosses his arms. "It's one thing for a group of wererats to get together, splash around some ale, and shake fists at those above." Barael points his dagger at the arsenal. "These blokes had enough organization to put this all together. This could have done significant damage to folks not ready to fend it off with their own might."
"Charlie, Eries is your friend, but I don't know much about her, and what moves her. Unless Eries can give us valid reassurances that we properly defanged them, Cressida should know about this. I know I'd want to know about the kind of lawlessness brewing below the city. Who's to say that there aren't more little groups like this. Unless Girrigz was singular in his cause. He got several to think like he did. You said it yourself, Charlie. The wererats are citizens too, and they ain't above the law of Korvosa. And we ain't the law."
"Also, their bite can cause you to come down with lycanthropy yourself. So unless you wish to be a were rat, I suggest you avoid their bite!"
Barael quiets down a bit.
"Charlie. Why they call her "Yellow Eyes"? Girrigz had yellow eyes too. Is she, you know, one of them?"
Fondo Barondo
Fondo gives his usual smile to Barael's poorly concealed attempt to bask in Cressida's glow. "Brov, look at this map. Even a soldier of new mint can see, there's no coordination here. Girrigz drew a few marks that probably only he understood. The rest're sheep."
"Now they're weaponless, rudderless, and scared sheep. Why're they scared? Because other scared, desperate folk saw the Veil in their beady little eyes. Most likely, the ones who ran've done naught more'n defend themselves. And rightly so."
Fondo turns back to the darkness. "WELL WE'RE NOT HERE TO HUNT YOU. LET'S HAVE PEACE AND FOCUS ON WHAT BINDS US. THE VEIL." And the Queen.
"What's more, Brother Barael — we gave Eries our word to deal with Girrigz and Girrigz alone. I'll not have us besmirching Charlie's good name and ruining our own. If we're to fight for the people, we need their trust." He says 'Brother Barael' the way a mother might say one's given name and surname, each syllable clear and concise as if to say, 'Listen up.'
Charlie Buckminster
"Well said. I also do not approve of us going to Cressida to send blind aggression into my neighborhood. One cannot live in fear. Girrigz was not part of a conspiracy, he was a random fellow who worked up a couple of his buddies into a froth. They ran when we got scary. That is not the reaction of a believer. If you are not satisfied let us grab Eries and track them down ourselves, surgically. Although I do not think this necessary. If we encounter them in the future we can remind them that we spared their lives and maybe get some benefit. We took care of the glitch. Let's move on."
"I don't know if she's one of them. It may just be cirrhosis. Here let me look at your bite"

Barael relents to the flank, and is disarmed by Charlie's ministrations. Barael has a low CMD vs Heal Checks :)
"Does Eries have some status with the people of the Vaults, Charlie? Is she like their Field Marshall, down below? Sssss, not so hard, that's tender." Barael tries to make light of the loss of a visit to Cressida.
"I'll admit that I'll sleep sounder knowing that the Midlands folk are safer for what we done today. Is that bone, Charlie? You keep moving the skin too easily, swear I saw something white." Barael tries to keep from retching. Won't do to move while being mended.
"Thanks, Charlie. I meant no offense against Eries. Just want to be proper in our service to the good people, both in the streets, and in the Citadel. You think this scar makes me look more... you know, tougher?"
DM_Euan
Charlie - Barael definitely has Filth Fever, but you should, with a little time (10 minutes) be able to fix up a new save for him without trouble for tonight. Might want to do it not in the sewers - either further along in the Vaults or at home.
Barael, you can make that save now if you like - get it out of the way so to speak. +4 on your check vs DC 14. (Charlie can't fail his Heal check vs this disease with the surgeons kit - and of course he could take ten to get a 23.)
As for the rest, you retrace your steps as you talk and find yourselves back in the light of day, stinking and bloody a few blocks from the Harrow House (and therefore also just a few blocks from Sauls) around noon of Toilday, Sarenith 19, 4707. You are laden with weaponry and armor, and of course the filth of the sewer portion of the Vaults.
