Bloody Snowflakes: A VTM20 Chronicle

Game Master Ridge

The city of Perle Perdu, Louisiana has always been the poor cousin to more famous New Orleans. Like that city, Perle Perdu faced devastation, driving many out of their homes for a time. Now they have finally recovered. But then, that's just one side of the story. The vampires have been rebuilding too, and their Mad Prince knows what a prize she has now that the population to feed on has returned. Whether plot or insanity is the cause, she has spurned entry from any new comers of the 7 Camarilla Clans in favor of far rarer bloodlines in the name of Cainite Diversity.

You are one of those rarities

1 to 50 of 327 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | next > last >>

(Pardon the repeat from elsewhere but it keeps things out in the open on its own thread)
The Camarilla, that greatest and most venerable of sects. It claims under its umbrella, all Kindred as its charges. Claims aside, most who know it, know better. Seven great clans (Six if you believe that the Gangrel Egress is going anywhere) make up the power structure and majority of their membership. Other Clans are either Independent or have, mostly, allied with the Sabbat! Mere Bloodlines struggle for acceptance, notice, and sometimes even permission to claim a haven in a city.

You ought to know, you're one of the atypical ones. Your blood is different from the 'Big Seven'. To paraphrase an old saying, you had to work twice as hard to get half as much. So much for the "Camarillan Dream".

And then, it happened, a Camarilla City, had not only its kine population depleted by flood and fire, but also faced the loss of over fifty percent of its kindred! Out of the wet ashes, a Malkavian Prince rose to power, and now, a decade later, the humans are back in the numbers they were before. Where there are humans, Kindred may feed and thrive!

Only the Prince has decided to embrace (no pun intended) what she calls "Cainite Diversity"! She has denied members of the seven Clans the right to settle in her domain directing them elsewhere! She has refused to let those few in the city sire. Instead, she has put out word that bloodlines and children of the rarer bloodlines will be not only tolerated but welcome and encouraged to thrive!

Of course, she's out of her damned mind! She's got to be making enemies right and left! But then, this is your chance. Whether you simply hope for a home, wish to try to gain influence in some aspect of the city before some Ventrue or Toreador can claim it instead, or hope to earn an embrace and increase your bloodline; this is likely your best bet. For once, your rarity helps get your foot in the door.
You are a Bloody Snowflake…

----------------------
As you can tell, I'm embracing the weird for this one. It may turn out to be more of a world of shadow than flat out darkness. The Fictional City means I get to wing it a bit more, and frankly steal from any players who want to contribute what this setting has. Think New Orleans' less loved cousin and we work from there.

The PCs would start as Neonates in current times in the Fictional City of Perle Perdu, Louisiana. Most likely as new arrivals, but I might allow one or two to have always been there but now showing themselves.
Clans & Bloodlines allowed: the whole 'gimmick' is you get to play something odd, or at least rare, a non cam clan in a Camarilla setting. Here is what is allowed

Blood lines and Clan offshoots allowed: Daughters of Cacophony (Who can be male as well), Gargoyle, Kiasyd, Lasombra Antitribu, Assamite (Yes, they're trying to join the Cam as is a setting option) Vizier or Sorcerer, Old Clan Tzimsce (Who have Animalism, Auspex, and Dominate), Salubri, Samedi, True Brujah
Starting Generation 13th
Attributes - 7/5/3
Abilities - 13/9/5
Backgrounds – 6*
Virtues - 7
Disciplines - 4 (Rare out of Clan disciplines will need a reason)
Freebies - 21
Merits & Flaws - 7 & 7 max
*- Obviously some Backgrounds won't make sense if you arrive in a new city, but you can sort of 'pre purchase' and have things kind of fall in your lap in play, within reason. You probably won't have more than one dot in Influence at the start period.

I'll be trying to use the V20 rules. I don't have the new bloodlines book, but I'm open to merits or flaws from it if if you give me the details on game effect.

While some of you maybe off on 'solo moments' quite often, it's my hope that the 'we freaks are in this together ' factor will encourage a coterie or sorts… or at least reduce the chances war between PCs .
I'm going for a post rate of one every 3 days for me, and you guys responding within a day or two after that if possible. In solo moments it may matter less.

In addition to the stats, I would like to know the following things.
1) How old is your character and when was he/she embraced?
2) Why is your character in Perle Perdu? Obviously for a home, but did his or her sire send her, is her bloodline encouraging him her to establish room for growth for them all? Etc. Are they on a diplomatic mission, or on the run etc?
3) Related: What are your character's long term goals and dreams?
4) Does your character have mortal friends or family in the setting? Do they know of you even if (hopefully) they don't know you are a vampire?

Any questions so far folks?

I have not posted over in the other thread, but would still like to express interest.
For that, I'll make it short - if I get a go-ahead, I'll flesh things out more:

Daughter of Cacophony(focused on Melpominee Discipline-wise, Attributes will be Social-Physical-Mental, Abilities Skills-Talents-Knowledges, Enchanting Voice is a must-have-)
1.: Female, Late Teens/Early Tween, embraced only a couple years ago.
2.: For a while after her embrace, "faked" a normal life for her family, pretending to still attend university(living in a dorm far from home), making up excuses about family events(so sorry I couldn't come for the thanksgiving dinner)...not any more. She arranged a fake death(with a real body => covering up a masquerade breach in the process) involving drugs and a burned-down cabin, then left to start a new life. So she is on the run from her former family, and followed the advice of her sire.
3.: Oh, she had childish dreams as a human teen. Being a Starlet, a Singer, a Youtube star...she feels that she is quite capable of achieving that, now. Having completely altered her look, she is just starting to conquer social media with her new identity, but dreaming big.
4.: Cut ties to family(as per 2), but made mortal friends in Perle Perdu.
One of them, she is having a "relationship" with(retainer, made into a Ghoul), for day-to-day errands while she's sleeping. The others friends of that social circle don't know what she is.(and her humanity is still high enough to fake being human quite successfully)

As concepts go, it looks pretty good to me. Enchanting voice merit certainly makes sense

Ever seen the disney cartoon gargoyles? I have wanted to do something likethat forevah do my concept would be a cursed gargoyle whose curse was lifted by a wealthy ward/ceo contact who those legends and brought him and his castle above the clouds to break said curse. So this would be an older vampire who was turned to stone form by a curse for a long time like a type of torpor and then released right before the plot begins.

I do remember that. I lost interest in the later seasons, but yes, it was some amazing writing.

Your gargoyle could be torpored for over a century (or more) if you want, but to be a neonate he only spent 50 years as a gargoyle IIRC.

Which I don't think hurts your concept, but felt I should mention it :)
Perhaps your character angered the Tremere who used to be his master and got the curse from him.

We'd need to work on how to make this CEO fit the setting. I'm not sure I'm smart enough to play Xanatos as an NPC ;)

so far it looks like we have one person submitting a Daughter of Cacophony , and the other a Gargoyle.

Anyone else got their picks narrowed down to a specific bloodline/clan offshoot?

After giving it some thought True Brujah! I'll get a build up by Tuesday next few days will be crazy for me ;-)

Just use Temporis, shadow *grins*

And then there were three, at least three in rough draft. :) I've been making NPCs for the Campaign Info bit by bit. How much your characters know about them may vary but feel free to look. If anyone feels their concept is getting stepped on by an NPC, let me know and I can tweak said NPC, remove them, etc.

Actually, not so rough. I'll add a proper story/background/description, of course, but mechanically, I'm rather finished(except maybe some finetuning).

Nice. You even made all the math easy for me when it came to freebies, which I appreciate *G* I'm very curious about some of the flaws as it sounds like they'll be tied to her history and what shaped her personality. The Masquerade Breaker puts in her in someone's control (or at least with pressure), so let me know if you have a particular idea for that someone or want me to just make someone up. My own setting is still very much wet cement for the purpose of letting your characters shape it too.

Here is my gargoyle. Still working on mechanics but pretty close.

Marcus Welby wrote:

Well, one thing to remember is that VtM20 Gargoyles aren't pretty...(Though there maybe a Merit in the Bloodline book that helps, not sure)

Good news is that gives you another point to shove into Charisma or Manipulation since your Ap is zero.

Quote:
Weakness: The Slaves are hideous. That grotesquery takes different forms, but always results in an Appearance of zero. They are also highly susceptible to mind control from any source. A Gargoyle’s Willpower score (current or permanent) is considered two points lower when used to resist such powers.

Another problem is you need to use Freebies to raise any abilities (talents, Skills, or Knowledges) Past 3. (Which might be my fault for not making that clearer in the character creation bit)

As for the 800 years, well, that's a LOOOOONG time to be out of it, but if it's what you want for your concept, then so be it. :)

Gay Male Inhuman

Dot. Not firm on a concept yet but leaning Assamite, probably Vizier because I'm playing a Tremere in another game and don't think I want to double up on thaumaturgy. Possibly a Kiasyd or Lasombra Antitribu. Need to read up some more.

Fair enough, I'm going with the option of the Assamite Schism with many of them hoping to join the Camarilla for protection from their own. Not sure if that encourages folks or discourages from playing one.

In fact, I should probably put some notes in the Campaign info on which 'official tweaks to the meta setting' I'm going with.

Kiasyd was my second choice :-)

So going through the followers of set clanbook I found a group of mesoamerican vampires called Tlacique with a blood magic called nahuallotl, obfuscate, and protean. They are true believers in the aztec gods. Most vampires dont even know these guys exist. What do you think?

I am hoping to start by Friday , maybe sooner if folks get their stuff together. BUT that's flexible. Busy time of year for many.

And a Kiasyd bar owner is fine. Unless he (or she) has been in hiding all this time and only now officially come over, then he'd be 'the new owner' of the place or a had it built from scratch only recently.

Ah, took me a bit to find it...

Obfuscate, Presence, Protean for disciplines and then..

Quote:
In addition to their Disciplines, they practice a form of Thaumaturgy called Nahuallotl (in game terms, this Path is identical to the Path of Blood, found on p. 213, although they pay out-of-Clan costs to learn it).

at least according to the V20. So you could buy a path with Freebies

Well, this is all about the odd... so I won't rule it out but I do see it as a rough fit. The Tlacique don't like the Camarilla (All that conquest and genocide of the original Native Aztetcs the Camarilla gave the okay to) and they're furious at the Sabbat for betraying them. Then there is the question of if your character follows 'that old time religion' is he actually going to be carving hearts out frequently? That might be seen as a threat to the Masquerade. Lastly, it's pretty far from the bloodline's usual stomping grounds (south east instead of Southwest and Mexico)

way I see it possible concepts that might work...

1) We decide the Tlacique (in this setting) are angrier at the Sabbat than the Camarilla and are willing to send out feelers with some of their neonates to see if certain individual princes could be tolerated even if they're still not crazy about the Sect.

2) Your character is no longer a true believer, or at the least is some kind of heretic and on the run. Maybe he never was but only now has the chance to break free.

3) The main clan of the Followers of Set fear they might be rejected, so have pushed your sire and bloodline to send you in to see if the Tlacique are forgotten enough to have an easier time of it.

Of course, unless you go with number two, you might find other PCs of more humane nature reluctant to interact with you. I'm a bit gunshy of PVP to be honest, but if we can at least try to coax things to avoid that one way or naother, so much the better.

We've got a Daughter of Cacaphony and a Kiasyd done or at least so close to done that it will flesh out fully with play

If anyone else still working on theirs has questions they need answered or even just wants to make a suggestion to make it easier for their concept let me know. If you tell me you need this or that type of NPC vampire in the city for your backstory, merits, or flaws- then I can probably slip them in frex.

I'm caught in option paralysis. I know my PC is going to be some kind of academic/nerdy type (high chance of being a historian/history PhD program, maybe an IT guy) but unsure if I want him to go Lasombra anti or Assamite vizier. Sorcerer would almost certainly feel too much like my Tremere.

On the Las side, Obtenebration wins lots of cool points. He might come to sire's notice as his last known mortal descendant. Cue a decade of his life falling apart, as per tradition. (I tend to write modern day backstories in that direction anyway.) Nerdy and a survivor. Misplaced and uncomfortable in aristocratic trappings due to being a former counterculture "rebel" could be fun. Probably a few fairly drastic lifestyle shifts as he tries to cope with life collapsing that end up having some formative impact. Cons: I am likely incapable of playing stylish and elegant.

On the Assamite side, nerdy is basically what viziers want. He might have a repressed violent side that comes out while he's being auditioned for the embrace. Advisor demands "favors" or a peer badly damages his research program and he explodes, gets even. Sire: "An intellectual AND violent. Excellent!" Odd fit here could be that the Vizier is very traditional old world and the PC is very modern America. The reasons he's useful are the same reasons they don't mesh well. Cons: I've read the clanbook and I just don't get what viziers really do, except PhD programs for Vamps. They feel like sorcerers who didn't learn magic.

The way I don't go might become a rival sires flaw. Would either be a better fit for Perle Perdu?

I want you to play whatever you'll enjoy...

Which is no help to you I'm sure.

But, looking at the Cons and some other points...
Your Lasombra Antitribu does not have to be elegant or stylish given the reason for the embrace you gave. His great grand daddy Lasombra/sire might assume he'll grow into it, even if he won't. So this Con isn't such a prevention . Now you do have another player playing a Kiasyd, so you won't have the shadow stuff to yourself. If you want to be more unique, keep that in mind but certainly no shame in two shadow weavers.

Your Assamite Vizier concepts...well, they're actually a lot like Toreador as they can be just as obsessed with art as knowledge. I wouldn't recommend singing as that might be a lost cause with a DoC in the chronicle ;) Viziers often get thrust into diplomacy roles it seems so he might have been embraced as much for ambassadorhood as anything else.

While there's nothing preventing it, we have someone else with the rival sires flaw.

There, that didn't help much at all :)

My background is 90% done, of course that's the mental part. I'll try to get it up at work tomorrow as I have plans tomorrow night. If not then Thursday. Crunch is done.

ST Gloaming:
I am between taking 2 Necromancy Path or 1 Path and a dot in Obtenebration (being with the Black Hand for 90 years you pick a few things up!) I know there is a restriction against a second path without a certain number of dots so if you want to follow RAW then Obtenebration it is otherwise I'll do the 2 Necro paths as once you see the concept, you'll know why I am leaning in this direction. Think sociopath Indiana Jones ;-)

ST Shadow:
Okay, as we don't have any Samedi or the like yet.. I'll allow you to bend the Rules as Written and go for the second path of necromancy. Sheesh. I would think Temporis would be enough but nooo...
Of course, that's 14 points of freebies out of the 21 provided so I can't say you aren't paying for it the hard way.

Now about the age, normally I tend to say neonates haven't had anymore than 50 years as a vampire. See if you can squeeze that in? I suppose he could have spent sometime as a ghoul before that.

Indeed, I will be paying for it the hard way, I will not advance the second until I advance the primary to 3 though so I appreciate the rule bending for character creation purposes!

Yes, I will have a stint in Torpor which should be interesting for the rationale why. He'll be born in roughly 1895 and be Embraced in 1925 after a brief stint as a Ghoul (about a decade). Torpor will come around the year 1955 and roused in the late 8o's out from Torpor active ever since.

I have an NPC in the Venice game that does exactly that (though most of the PCs have never interacted with him).

For this game, I am dropping Obtenebration as Gloaming has allowed me to bend the rules a bit to craft a character. The abilities are not overpowering in any way, they just fit the theme of the character better than Obtenebration would have.

FYI my plans for tomorrow night are now canceled so I can finalize my write-up for this submission, I'll have the backstory and crunch all up tomorrow.

Looks like, let me ask you a few questions though. I may have missed something as it's late when I ask this.

University merit? Am I missing that in my V20 rules or should that be 3 or 4 dots in the Domain Background? :)

I see one of your skills is meditation. that's fine, but as it isn't in the rulebook I'm looking up I may need a reminder of game use.

You have him listed as having Virtues of Conviction and Instinct, but don't say what Path he is on and have humanity listed

Okay. While his power over the University (And his haven there) might be part of his dark secret, I'm assuming he's still presented himself before the Prince?

EDIT: Thought of a few more.

Does Your Old Clan Tzimisce know his vitae is infertile? Has he tried to embrace anyone only to have them die on him, or is he ignorant of the merit?

Dominate 5 is a hell of a thing to start the game with, but then, at only 13th Generation, there are a lot of Kindred he won't be able to use it on so it does have its checks so that's okay with me.

Sovereign Court

Male Kindred Old Clan Tzimice 6xp saved, 2 spent 12th Generation

Marcus is going the path of honorable accord to make him workable in a group he doesnt know he is infertile, meditation allows one to regain spent willpower and he was presented by his sire to the Prince so we will say the prince knows or knew he had the university but only that it I could change it to domain and prestation gift if that works better

Right now I plan on spending 21 Freebies on 3 Discipline dots and 7 on Will and Occult but I could spend all 28 on Disciplines I suppose though I am not a big fan of thet type of build ;-(. That said, I hope you lot of old geezers manage to cope with the frantic excitement of a millenial. Half of you probably don't even remember what the sun feels like.

My PC, assuming I can finally settle on a concept and get it to where I like in the next day, will be a reasonably new vampire. Leaning toward 5-10 years undead.

Yep, my PC will be an old bastard, I took Anachronism as a Flaw to boot!

You are F, 18-25/0-5, and miss Summer Break?
Lets enjoy some moonshine(distilled), praise the lord(yo, we know it's all true!), and take selfies(hehe) together for our Instagram!

(wanted to append that but paizo was down for me...so separate post :P...that said, Samnell: glad to hear not everybody is ancient. You'll just be old.

Shadow's Status

I came pretty close to playing a Lasombra Anti as the Lasombra is probably my favorite Clan but having played so few True Brujah, even as NPCs' I had to take it!

My favorite True Brujah prior to this was a villain PC who was a 4th Generation True Brujah who converted to the Baali Bloodline. My PCs had to stop her and her nefarious gang from Diablerizing Tremere utilizing the Ritual of the Bitter Rose. It was a pretty awesome final scene I remember we played it out on a Superbowl Sunday back in like 98 or 99. One of the longest sessions I ever ran 8-10 hours :-)
