I'm bringing a necromancer to this weekend's Society table, and I see that they can learn spells. The text says that each time the necromancer gains a level, they add two occult spells to their dirge. These spells are chosen from common occult spells or "others [they] gain access to and learn via Learn a Spell (Player Core 230)."
Two questions about this:
1. How do they learn spells? Wizards have a spell book they can scribe spells into. Witches' familiars can commune with other familiars or eat scrolls. How does it work for necromancers? Can they learn spells from scrolls, and if so, how does it work? And can they learn spells from other necromancers by somehow exchanging dirges, and if so, how does that work?
2. Can they only add spells when they gain a level? If they learn a spell before they level, do they "not really know" it until they level, at which point they can add the spell to their dirge?

1) This is a little nebulous, but presumably by studying, burning special incenses, and meditating to add spells to the dirge that reverberates in their soul.
2) This is a little ambiguous. I'm pretty sure the bit of text about adding spells directly to your dirge via the learn a spell activity was just forgotten, but there's a pendantic argument that since that passage is missing the activity can obly be used to (in home games) learn uncommon/rare spells to gain access to them (Which lets a Cleric/Druid prepare them and a Spontaneous Caster add them to a repetoire by leveling up or retraining)

The learn from learn spell activity is in the dirge section "Each time you gain a level, you add two occult spells
to your dirge, of any spell rank for which you have spell
slots, chosen from common occult spells or others you gain
access to and learn via Learn a Spell (Player Core 230)."

Right. I guess my question relates to the language "others you gain access to and learn via Learn a Spell (Player Core 230)." It's not clearly stated how necromancers Learn a Spell other than through advancement in levels. Like do they need a scroll, and if so, what do they do with the scroll? Can they learn from other necromancers? Can they spend downtime to Learn a Spell?

Learn a Spell (Player Core 230) tells you how you do it.
To learn the spell, you must do the following:
Spend 1 hour per spell rank, during which you must remain in conversation with a person who knows the spell or have the magical writing in your possession.
Have materials with the Price indicated in the Learning a Spell table.
Attempt a skill check for the skill corresponding to your tradition (DC determined by the GM, often close to the DC on the Learning a Spell Table). Uncommon or rare spells have higher DCs.
