Hi,
I love playing second edition, but, I noticed that books in 1th edition had this extra ink that gave the pages a parchment look, whereas 2nd edition prints everything on a white background.
And I gotta say, I find the parchment pages much more beautiful! First edition feels like it's a game in a fantasy setting. Second edition, by comparison, feels like a modern game for a modern setting.
I know it's just eye candy, but I wished 2nd edition had that same old style look and feel to its sourcebooks!

Yeah, 1e books were much prettier, albeit more difficult to navigate. I do really enjoy the legibility of stat blocks in PF2, but sometimes they give off a bit of a high school textbook vibe. Reading can feel more like studying than playing a game.
A bigger design miss for me is the 2e character sheet. The remaster dramatically improved it, but the legacy version was a downright eyesore, both unpleasant to behold and difficult to navigate. I miss the crisp and utilitarian 1e sheet, despite it being so intimidatingly dense.

We had several reasons to remove the parchment backgrounds, even though they did give the books a fun look. The three biggest reasons I reacall:
1) The parchment background made it difficult for some folks to read the text.
2) The parchment background added a not insignificant amount of drain on those who wanted to print pages from PDFs.
3) The PDF file sizes of books were smaller without that extra background element, making it easier to download and store.
