[2e] dumb question about mystics

General Discussion

Why do mystics have 1st-level feats, when they don't get any class feats until 2nd level?

Some ancestries (humans lol) can sometimes sneak in an extra lv1 class feat. So, spellcasters have lv1 feats, even if most of them can't pick them up until lv2.

A bunch of PF2 classes are like that, usually Casters.

Humans can get 1st Level Class Feats via Natural Ambition. And there might be other ways to get a "Level 1 Class Feat" later down the line. Including some class Features.

Ah, got it, that makes sense.

In addition to that human ancestry feat, most multiclass dedications have a 4th-level feat that gives you a 1st- or 2nd-level feat from its class. And you can always take a lower-level class feat when you gain a new one. So there are many reasons for every class to have some 1st-level feats, whether they get one then or not.

A great example of this are Witchwarpers. They have very general level 1 feats, but their level 2 feats are all subclass-locked reactions- you only really get one option. Many Witchwarpers are likely to pick a level 1 feat at level 2.

There are three level 2 WW feats that are not locked to subclass. Nonlethal Spell, Conceal Spell, and extra cantrips.
