Why does Paizo make it so difficult to buy products from them?

This isn't the first time that I have come across this issue, but it is the first time I have actually been annoyed enough to make a post about it. Today, like many times before I decided that I wanted to get some old 1e stuff, and seeing as it costs an arm and a leg to get most of it physically these days I decided to come here and purchase it directly from the source.

My first stumbling block was logging in. I made the mistake of trying to log in on my phone, which meant dealing with the mobile site. I logged in using my email and password, but despite it acting as though I logged in whenever I actually tried to do anything it would display as though I hadn't. I purposely put in the wrong password in order to check that it wasn't just a case of me putting in the wrong password, but got the regular error message, so it wasn't just me using the wrong login info. This has happened many times over the last decade, and it usually where I get annoyed and go someplace else to try and get what I need, but today I was feeling stubborn.

I try to use a different device. Second verse, same as the first. I take the option to reset my password to make sure there's no chance that this is a login issue, but to no one's surprise I still can't get into my account. This is the next step where I usually throw up my hands and give up, but I am feeling rather mulish today and so finally go out of my way to find a desktop to use since Paizo doesn't seem to want my money.

Once I finally login on an actual computer it finally realizes that logging in is supposed to log you in, so I go to pick up the Skull and Shackles PDFs which were the whole reason why I came here to begin with. I put them in my cart and go to check out, but even after I place my order I don't see S&S in my PDFs or a pending charge on my bank account. It didn't even take the PDFs out of my cart. I try again, but no dice. This is the final place where I usually give up, and is the furthest I get 9 times out of 10. Despite me being both ready and willing to give currency for goods Paizo doesn't seem willing to sell me the wares that it claims are for purchase.

This has happened numerous times over the last couple of years, and has kept me from buying at least hundreds of dollars' worth of books from this site. Is there any chance that the site will ever improve to the point that a successful purchase doesn't feel like rolling a nat 20 IRL?


A new online store is under construction. No telling when they'll get it up and running, though.

And I've had the same login issues that you are having. At the moment, I can log in on my iPhone, computer, and even my old iPad mini, but no matter what settings I change, my iPad Pro will never log in.

This blog from july 2023 also speaks of the new store. So if they haven't figured it out in 2 years, who knows when it will be updated.

I mean web development takes time, especially for a company that isn't a tech company. The newer blog post has actual signs of progress, so I'd say that's proof that its probably coming sooner rather than later. My bet though would be after GenCon so as not to disrupt things before the launch of Starfinder 2E.
