Irresistible Magic and status bonus vs arcane

Rules Discussion

Wizards get a feat called Irresistible Magic.

Plenty of legacy dragons have the entry "+1 status to all saves vs. magic" written next to the save modifiers. But many of the dragons in Monster Core instead state "+1 status to all saves vs. {specific magic tradition like arcane or primal}". Does Irresistible Magic still work against these less wide-ranging defenses?

Description of the Arcane Trait: "This magic comes from the arcane tradition, which is built on logic and rationality. Anything with this trait is magical.

A creature with this trait is primarily constituted of or has a strong connection to arcane magic."

Arcane being a form of magic, for me it works per RAW. And I think it should work per RAI. So it'd be a clear yes around my table.

It does say any creature that has a status bonus to saving throws reduces the bonus when saving against your spells. So unless something explicitly states that it cannot be reduced or otherwise ignore reductions to the bonus then Irresistable magic applies.

That encompasses all status bonuses regardless of specification and it even seems like it would apply to spells outside arcane if the wizard were to pick up a spellcaster dedication.

No, it does say a bonus to saving throws against magic, not any bonus. A bonus against poison would fully work against your poison based spells.

I didnt thought it neccesary to add that distinction since it obviously states "A bonus to saving throws against magic."

My point was that it is against all bonuses towards magical traits, or spells with specific tags. Including spells granted from other sources than the wizard class.

A creature with a status bonus to spells with the fire trait would be affected to.

So for the saving throw status bonus to be applicable, it just needs to only work against things that are necessarily magical.

For instance, if I were to cast fear on a Hellknight Armiger, its status bonus wouldn't be reducible because it works against all fear effects, not just magical fear effects.
