I found out that I can play a poppet (a teddy bear), and it's all. I. can. think. of.
My initial thought is a ranger who rides a bear mount and uses a short bow. And eldritch archery.
But would it be better to play a fighter with eldritch archery? I've mostly GM'd, and I haven't really looked into the mechanics of various player choices, so I could use advice on what works best.
Also, any other big ideas? A sorceror or wizard? Let me know what jumps into your mind! Thanks!

So many directions and themes to link into, right?
But if you're leaning into Eldritch Archer, then Fighter's superior. Ranger's archery strength is in Hunt Prey (which you can't do with the 3-action arrow) and action compression on said prey (which doesn't jibe with it either). Meanwhile, the Fighter's accuracy augments the effects. And with Felling Strike and that 10th level Slow one, you have other single-shot options that help a party out.
Personally I wouldn't be able to resist playing a Care Bear w/ rainbow powers, at least until other bear characters came to mind. The decision paralysis would be...unbearable. *no remorse*
Ooh, Bard-a-bear.
Barbearian.
Oh my, too much punnery.

Nice! Thanks for the info. Fighter could be the way to go…but no bear mount! I guess I can find another way to get one.

Yeah, that's the tradeoff. Fighter would be better synergy with the Eldritch Archer, but Ranger would give the companion in-class.
Beastmaster archetype is the standard recommendation for animal companion add.

I've had great fun with my teddy bear champion. Maybe something from it can further inspire you?

Thank you! Now I'm working up a build for fighter + beastmaster + maybe eldritch archer. And I'll compare that with ranger (without eldritch archer).
