I guess that's possible. In such a case, I'd reskin Bounty Hunter. You were trained to go find specific people.
But the point of my question was: backgrounds are what you did before you do what you do now. So the OP could think about what their character did before Alice got lost and it was necessary for them to set out on a quest to find her, and any such pre-quest lifestyle would make a good background. The background of Samwise Gamgee isn't ring-bearer companion, it's gardener. The background of Taran isn't anything heroic or questy, it's assistant pig-keeper.
