So I have a query with regards a crossbow and reloading...

Ok let's assume the crossbow is loaded for the following scenario...

1st Action - Ranged Attack
2nd Action - Reload
3rd Action - Regrip or can PC Attack again

3rd action here can be an attack. Reload also includes regrip.

As they said, but with the quote:

PC1 p.276, "Switching your grip to free a hand and then to place your hands in the grip necessary to wield the weapon are both included in the actions you spend to reload a weapon."

Note that this does mean that Crossbows and 2-H reload weapons are not "locked in" to only attacking like 2-H melee weapons are.

After you shoot, you can drop a hand and use a consumable, Battle Medicine, etc, without any damage to your action economy. Thanks to that "regrip inside reload" you can wait to Reload after you do the 1-H thing and will still be ready to fire after the Reload finishes.

Note that if you drop a hand while it's already loaded, then you're stuck spending an action to regrip.

That's kinda essential for any Alchemist (or other class) looking to make use of that nice early-game Alchemical Crossbow.
