Dwarven Thaumaturge Pack Rat

Advice

I'm fairly new to pf2e, and was hoping for advice to make a dwarven Thaumaturge who started off with a tome (eventually getting a weapon).

I love the idea of him being a pack rat and crafter who makes anything he needs for any situation. (Hopefully crafting magical gear if possible)

Class wise, he'll be taking scroll thaumaturgy, and increased investitures.

Where I could use advice is since my GM used free archetypes, which should I get, and additionally, what skill/general feats would help this concept.

I was quite happy with tome, the flexible skills proved valuable a few times, for example reading about survival when we wound up in a desert.
The real power spike came at lvl 9, basically free true strike each round, marvelous.

As an archetype i chose marshal - while you are often a bit action-starved as a thaumaturge the additional to-hit bonus helps you bridge the gap to martials that have strength (or dex) as a key stat.
Reactive strike at lvl 8 is also really good, i was not happy with the limitations on implements interruption and re-trained out of the weapon implement.

Scroll thaumaturgy and diverse lore made my character really versatile, having a max rank heal scroll in your belt to get your downed healer back on its feet is really good, and participating in all kinds of recall knowledge checks is also golden.

My main issue was mobility, i did not have a good ranged weapon and only used jolt coil as a backup, the solution for that was psychic dedication at lvl 6, amped warp step is a 1-action teleport, super helpful.

Here is a link to my character, played him in Alkenstar

Other than that, most campaigns have some downtime, so you can just try out things and retrain if you don't like them.

Just curious, which implement did you train into? And were you happy with that choice?

Would you have trained out of weapon if you hadn't gotten reactive strike from Marshal?

Thanks

I used Tome and Regalia.
It was good, but we basically ruled as if i have all my things in hand at once/switching as a free action - the rules are a bit awkward about that, allowing it for actions/reactions - ask your DM about it before you commit to a passive implement like regalia and then don't get its bonuses because you use the active tome implement.
If your DM does not allow it then i would prefer amulet with tome, both allow you to switch RAW.

The weapon implement was awkward as i has to ask for a lot of actions if they had the concentrate trait, reactive strike is easier to handle. Maybe its easier if the DM announces this proactively.
Being limited to one target really diminishes its value, i got to use it only a few times (and never critted/interrupted anything).

I think the problem with making a true crwfter is the class is really, really MAD. Instead of using the Craft action, I'd recommend using feats for temporary consumables. Thaumaturge already gets scroll and talisman options in class, and archetypes offer more feats for those and entirely new items consumable categories like snares and alchemicals. Skill feats like Root Magic and Pilgrim's Token would fit.
