Hello all,
I bought the 5e version of Abomination Vaults eagerly this morning, and right away I noticed that the Otari backgrounds aren't included, and the table of contents references the backgrounds being available for players to build their characters on. Was this an oversight with a coming errata, or is it simply not being included?
Yeah, that's a typo. We removed the backgrounds from the 5E version. Mostly for space reasons, since 5E content takes up a bit more room than 2E Pathfinder content... the 5E version of this campaign had to expand from the 2E Pathfinder version by over 30 pages.
We then forgot to remove the word "backgrounds" from the ToC. Sorry about that. :-(

We could in theory, but...
1) This requires a skillset that's not that widespread at Paizo and we wanted to focus our 5E experts on actually converting the adventure itself without overloading them with a proverbial death of a thousand needles by adding on a lot of extra work, and...
2) There was not enough pagecount to convert the Adventure Path at the same size as the 2E hardcover so we had to add lots of pages but also had to really try to minimize that extra pagecount as much as possible, so as to try to keep the costs down. (This is also, in part, why we didn't reprint the Nhimbaloth article in the 5E book.)
