The missus and I played our first PFS game at a convention, and wanted to get started either locally, or have characters that we could play at other conventions as time goes on.
Apologies if this is covered, but the forum search function seems inadequate for this. Every source that I seem to uncover on the official site is for PFS2. We don't own the 2nd edition core books, and had no interest in buying a whole new set of books.
1) Is there a "start guide" for PFS1 available?
2) Is PFS1 still supported, or is the prevailing sentiment pushing folks towards PFS2?

PFS1E is on legacy support, which is essentially that we can still play and report the existing content, but no further adventures or support will be provided. Which isn't great for those of us that want to continue, but does mean you can play through the library and enjoy ten seasons worth of adventures and have just as much fun.
You can find 1E resources here, as the main pages for PFS are indeed focused on 2E content and seasons. The 1E adventures are stored here.

I would still recommend giving 2e a try: Even if you don't buy 2e books, you can still make a wide variety of characters, and it's likely that the options are expanded even more when Player Core 2 is released in july.

Ownership of the Core Sources is not required for Character Option use in the Pathfinder Society campaign, as long as rules are referenced from the official Pathfinder Resource Document (prd). The Core Sources currently are: the Pathfinder Player Core, Pathfinder GM Core, Pathfinder Monster Core, Pathfinder Core Rulebook, Pathfinder Bestiary, and Lost Omens World Guide
Basically, all the information you need to play 2e and create characters can be found on Archives of Nethys (linked in the quote), Character Options (linked above), and the 2e guide.
