Quest for the Frozen Flame Character Advice

Advice

So about to be a new player in pathfinder and it looks interesting.
What i am struggling with is an interesting character idea (not just class) that isnt just one of the barbarians or rangers of the tribe. Im not against these as classes but its coming up with something interesting i am finding difficult given a much more close knit group than i have previously played in within 5e where you came with whatever and we made it work. For this adventure it feels more "restrictive" although i am not sure that is exactly right either.

Anyway are there any primer characters available? i cant find any. Any angles that people have previously taken that i could take something from? Your experience and ideas would be much appreciated.

In world questions i have though that may help:
Would any fo the Sarkoris have fled towards the mammoth lands and joined followings? Could there be a chance of reconciliation between the different Kellid?
Do the Followings swap/intermarry/leave going between Followings?
Ive seen mention of demonic possession not just demons. I like the idea of tying my story to the worldwound or even to the deep toguth.

My main idea so far has bee a Gnoll but im not sure they fit the environment? Do Gnolls have a demonic origin as in dnd? I like the idea of a character who is like a huge stray dog that just followed someone home one day and got adopted.I can picture them as lightly armoured melee ranger (risky i guess) or a barbarian (rage is like a state of focused hunter) or a fighter, guard(dog) with a Khophesh and their bite.
Other things that looked interesting were the store order Druid or perhaps being from the lost world area and having a raptor. But its creating these characters with a connection to the area i am strugglign with.

You've read the player's guide, right?

https://downloads.paizo.com/QuestfortheFrozenFlame_PlayersGuide.pdf

It has backgrounds and story hooks you can use. It seems like you're fairly familiar with the game's premise, but I want to make sure.

Also, the new playtest classes (exemplar and Animist) could both fit the AP. Get your GM's blessing though, particularly for the exemplar which is a rare class with some story implications.

Although, I'll note neither class is particularly simple, so they might not be the best for your first character.

No. Pathfinder Gnolls are very different. And in fact are in the process of being fully switched over to their cultural name of Kholo.

There is also the Shoony ancestry. And plenty of other suggestions here for just being a dog.

Actually we are getting awakened animals in the spring, so depending on when your game begins just being a dog will be an option.

Oh the dog thing was really in relation to the gnoll but the lack of demonic connection makes that a bust. The shoony definitely don't speak to me.

Any character story suggestions for leaning into the demonic or dinosaur ideas.

What about "death by a thousand cuts" - halfling barbarian who climbs onto targets, but savage. Oh, i have this mini that looks like a gnome going super saiyan (although he is wielding two axes), could that fit in?

Are warpriests as clerics still expected to be the healer? Maybe a giant hammer weilding blacksmith.

All of which take me further from my first idea as a ranger, but haven't got any character ideas for that one.

If you want to do a demonic kholo you can just give them the Tiefling/Nephelim versatile heritage. You can also apply that heritage to any other ancestry.

War Priests will be a healer to some degree, yes, unless you give them the harm font instead of heal. They get a bunch of free top level slots filled with either harm or heal, with your deity limiting your choice between the two. (Pre-remaster it was 1+Charisma modifier, post-remaster it will just start at 4.)

Pretty much any concept you named could work and be appropriate, but you're throwing a little too much at the wall for us to help you. The only thing I saw that didn't work mechanically was climbing on enemies. That's an easy house rule to adopt but nothing supports it RAW.

My PFS Champion of Torag MC Giant Barbarian totally fits the "giant hammer wielding blacksmith" description.

Sorry about that.

MC = Multiclass. It's the Barbarian (Giant instinct) Multiclass dedication archetype.

Very fair, im all over the show. Im going to take a day to reset and then come back with hopefully something less broad lol.

Next question for the game thou...how does a warpriest differ from a champion. Ive always thoughy paladin, martial cleric was very overlapped so i am curious how that plays in pf2e.

The Class is Champion (of the god Torag).

I spent many of my PC's class feats on the Barbarian Multiclass archetype to get some of the Barbarian class' abilities.

That is how multiclassing works in PF2. Actually, it's how all archetypes work in PF2.

So, my PC is still a full Champion with the usual Champion features, but he also has a few Barbarian-like abilities taken in place of more traditional Champion feats.

The PF2 Warpriest is actually pretty close to the PF1 Cleric. They are a full caster that can survive somewhat being on the frontline. But they will never be as good a frontliner as a martial. But they cast spells pretty well.

Whereas the Champion is completely a martial, quite able to thrive on the frontline. In time, they have the best AC of all classes. And they have a few divine abilities that they can build on with Champion feats if they so choose.

Yup, Champion = full martial with a focus on defense, including a reaction to protect allies. Will cast maybe one spell a combat, increasing up to 3 with the right feat investment.

War Priest = full caster which sacrifices a bit of spell power to get accelerated durability and weapon proficiency, but still very much a caster.
