Has anyone played this? Is there enough magic gear or do we need to use Automatic Bonus Progression?

Sky King's Tomb

Scarab Sages

Our group is about to start this game and our GM is not really fond of the forums, so I volunteered to ask for him.

Some of the older APs do not allow for PCs to buy/sell items and don't provide enough magic items so that PCs can keep up with monsters (cough cough Frozen Flame cough cough.) Luckily Automatic Bonus Progression ususally fixes this. Just wondering if anyone has played this AP and if they have found enough magic items (at least fundamental runes/potency + Striking runes) to get your party though, or should our group use Automatic Bonus Progression?

End of Book One, all the PCs have a +1 striking weapon at level 5. I don't recall magic armor found in the adventure, but there's a bunch of gold and we haven't bought equipment yet.

The barbarian did get a +1 striking weapon early and transferred the runes to her greataxe, which was great fun at levels 1 and 2.

One book in, it seems like treasure is on par. Automatic bonus progression is a good way to go if you're worried about keeping pace, though, and I can't see a strong reason not to do it if that is a top concern.

I had not thought before this post of using ABP in addition to item bonuses, with the obvious caveat that item and potency bonuses do not stack.

Feels like the best of both worlds.

At the end of book one, the player should have at least a +1 striker wounding weapon. And +1 armor, those are the basics relics.

I'm currently in chapter 1 of book 2. All my martial PCs have +1 Striking weapons and at least two of them have +1 Armour Potency runes (I have 6 PCs, 4 of which are martial). It helps that you are for the most part close to settlements, so you can buy these things. I also added a wandering Xorn merchant whom I put into my random encounter tables (read: I pull out if I feel like they really need to buy or sell some stuff).
