Question about the PHANTASMAGORIA spell.

As written why does Phantasmagoria have the Death trait?

It is on the Imposter in Hidden Places apparation spell list. Is it meant as a replacement for the Weird spell? If so it misses the mark...

I think anything with the death trait kills a target reduced to 0 HP.

In what way does it miss the mark? It does the main job that Weird did, which was deliver 16d6 damage to any number of enemy targets without hitting friendlies.

I’m not saying it is a bad spell, it’s quite good. But it doesn’t frighten. There is room thematically in the illusion category for both this spell and one that does what weird currently does. Unicore answered my question about the death trait.

I think weird might be one of those spells that the game had to step away from offering an exact duplicate. With the number of creatures that can be affected, confusion is a pretty brutal effect here. This is an evil “walk into town and cause mass chaos” spell.

True. I guess I am just missing the frightened condition (and some of the synergies there).
