I hadn’t been aware this was a thing until I saw an article about 150 members of the crew being laid off due to ongoing Hollywood shenanigans.
The original is one of my favorite movies, and the sequel was pretty decent. So I’m interested to see where they go with this. From the brief synopsis I saw, it seems kind of a reverse of the original, with a program’s adventures in the real world. If the synopsis stays accurate….

Well, yes, I am “making light” of it. Or at least aspects of it.
It sucks that a bunch of “low level workers” are being hurt by all this. There are, however, parts of the whole situation I find hilarious.
That, however, should probably be a conversation for a thread where it’s actually intended to be the main subject. Not a thread about a third Tron movie.

That might be for the best. Disney films have been a mixed bag lately.
It’s got at least two solid cast members in Jared Leto and Cameron Monaghan. I’m not familiar with the other cast members, or the director. IMDB lists at least two writers from the first Tron film, which sounds cool. Unless they’re just crediting them because the film uses some of their ideas, and aren’t actually working on this film.
Still, there’s a tiny part of me that is very slightly, cautiously pessimistic.

Most films have been a mixed bag lately, with the mix heavily in favor of an emesis bag. Even films I liked this year I don't plan on ever seeing them again. Lately I've been crawling through various streaming services (mine, my roomies', my cousin's) looking for classic movies that I've never seen. Just watched Once Upon a Time in the West. It fails the Bechdel Test rather handily but just might be the best Western I've ever seen.... though admittedly it doesn't have much competition as of yet.
Back to Tron:Ares
Nothing announced about this film makes me hopeful but it's not obviously off the rails either. Legacy was a spectacular show (sonically, visually, even if the plot was a little thin) and it will be difficult to follow that.
Maybe all the competition from streaming has diluted things but, overall, films hitting the silver screen these last few years grant no obvious warrant to the current Hollywood strike. Even characters that I really like - Kara Zor-El e.g. - markedly lack commendation in the films that feature them. For the remainder of this year I'm only looking forward to Dune pt 2 and Godzilla: Minus One.

Well, it’s been a minute.
Here’s the trailer for Tron: Ares
It at least looks interesting. And Jared Leto is a great actor. I wonder how they’re brining Flynn back, since he kind of died in the last one. No actual Tron, though. That sucks.

Funny to be on this side of the "Hollywood kerfuffle" and see what damage they did to themselves. I only feel sorry for all the associated folk who've lost income, or indeed their jobs, especially the independent theaters. After a fraught and desperate struggle.... streaming it is!
:D
Back to Tron: Ares
The director has promise. Remember that Joseph Kosinski, prior to Tron: Legacy, had directed a music video to his credit.
Casting is solid. Certainly no worse than Legacy.
NIN has some epically big shoes to fill. Let's hope they're up to it.
The plot only need be coherent to equal the last one. I'm hopeful that it levels up past Mortal Engines.
As for Tron.... he's come back from the dead before and this was only a teaser trailer. Or maybe he commands too much money for the 'new' Hollywood to take a chance? Another funny, this sequel was canceled (now we can say, delayed) because Legacy and another Disney movie failed to meet studio expectations.
