Hey everyone, I was unable to join the last S&W game so decided to drop a line here and check if there are other 'like minded' players out there who would be interested in playing/DMing with this OSR style ruleset.
I think I would be interested in DMing something taking place in 'The Lost Lands' setting by Frog God Games somewhere along the line, but before getting into it I would prefer experiencing the rules from a player perspective.
So I guess the bottom line is I am looking to understand if there would be enough interest from potential players and/or DMs out there.
All hail Tsathogga!

Okay, so I think I might need to explain that last bit some. I posted an interest thread a while back and there was some interest in running a Gaslamp Fantasy kind of game, which is what I settled on. Unfortunately, my interest in running that particular game pretty much went kaput, but I still wanted to run something. I started working on an adventure, but I ran into some issues with the middle part, and decided to try getting the hang of things in World Anvil by putting in the information players needed for The Crypt of the Everflame into it with the intention of running it and seeing how it went. I was planning on doing Pathfinder 1e Core Rulebook and Advanced Players Guide.
The only thing is, I have completed 1 game out of probably a dozen here on the boards. I don't have confidence in myself that I will finish and that is poison to even getting started much less finishing.
So that's why I'm not sure I'm up to running something at the moment. There's a part of me that's convinced I won't finish and that pretty much kills any chances of me actually starting.

That is fair enough Adam - I always thought PbP DMing would be ‘easier’ than being a DM for a ‘live’ tabletop game, simply because you have more time to ponder the posts, digest actions, roleplay, set up maps, etc. But I have to say the experiences I had as a DM around the boards, with great players in every single occasion, and with an interesting underlying plot/adventure, still felt like a LOT of work.
I am now firmly convinced that DMing a PbP game using PF1e rules is a full time endeavor, and requires a really focused dedication. I have tried as ‘little’ as DMing 1 game and playing in no more than 3 or 4 slow moving games, and it still felt really demanding.
That is one of the reasons I have ‘kind of’ went out looking for ‘simpler’ rule sets that would make playing and running games a lighter task, thus allowing a higher rate of success in terms of PbP gaming - simpler rule sets mean faster paced games, faster combats, less complex character and monster stat blocks, and overall a easier to run/play experience while still keeping the stories complex and immersive. I have always been a HUGE fan of all things FGG, so I ended in Swords & Wizardry as a place to start with a simple yet interesting set of rules, which easily provide all of the necessary tools to run a game, and upon which you can add complexity if the DM and/or the players find it necessary.
PF1e Core is perhaps also an option, since I like the PF rules framework a lot, but I detest the splat book and rules bloat which make it impossible to run. So… Simplicity ftw? :D
I have finished an AP here on these boards as a player with all the bells and whistles, but I think that was a rare event. This is a special medium, and I think the rules you use to run PbP games DO make a difference in the degrees of success you can achieve. For me, currently PbP is my only chance to play RPG so yeah, discovering the right balance between rules complexity, and interesting game/character/class/race features is a journey worth taking ;)
/rant over :D

Honestly, it's always the combat for me. That's what makes it so dang hard to run a PF1e PBP game because combat always seems to bog things down.
Yep, combat can be a slog in PF1e PbP.
Well Albion, The Eye if you are looking for a PF1e game that has Tsathoggua in it well... you might want to drop by the Dreadfulness in Dunwich recruitment thread.
Thanks for the tip! I will definitely check it out.
