Assassins and sneak attack

Rules Discussion

The assassin archetype has access to "sneak attacker" as an archetype feat at sixth level, while the rogue multiclass archetype gains it at fourth level. The feat lists "rogue dedication" as a prerequisite. Shouldn't this be "rogue or assassin dedication"? I suppose the confusion arises because the feat was originally in the CRB while the assassin archetype is in the APG. Still, it would seem ripe for an erratum or two, but I can't find one.

If Sneak Attacker was reprinted under Assassin, sure, it would make sense to add that. But it's just under the "additional feats" section in assassin.

They don't generally go back and errata feats to say "in a later book, archetype X also has this."

Hm. It's listed among the feats in the assassin archetype on AoN. Aha! The APG lists them at the top of the "assassin" page, which AoN does not.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Looking at the APG itself instead of AoN, the Assassin archetype doesn't reprint anything for the additional feats other than the name of the feat and what book and page number to find it at.

So it would be really strange to have Sneak Attacker in the Rogue Archetype in the CRB list Assassin Dedication as a possible prerequisite.

The rules for Additional Feats should squash any debate from rules lawyers.
