Abomination Vaults Conditions Help.

Abomination Vaults

Hello all. my friends and I are coming off of 5e and pretty new to pf2e. We are playing through The Abomination Vaults right now and my party ran into Aller Rosk. They fought him and it was a TPK. I feel like I did something wrong because it was a party of four at 3rd level and he just completely demolished them. Between the Ghoul fever and paralysis. They couldn't do anything. Wondering if they get immunity after they pass the fortitude saves like for 24 hours. It doesn't say anywhere on his character sheet If they do. and I see nothing on Archives of Neth. having to make a save after every attack seems a little overpowered to me. I know the module is supposed to be tough, but I want to do my due diligence as a DM To make sure I did that fight right. Should they be saving after every hit? And does that quicken condition that he gets from eating flesh continue throughout the entire combat?

Please post Abomination Vaults spoilers in the Abomination Vaults sub forum.

As for the issue you're having, Ghouls have always have paralysis on their attacks. Aller Rosk has higher than normal saves, but is still only a level 5 creature vs 4 level 3 PCs, which is a Moderate encounter. Depending on if they alert him or not, he should have a penalty to Initiative and be Slowed 1 for the first two rounds of combat as he complains about the party interrupting him. Ghoul Fever should also have no effect in combat unless they caught it earlier and never removed it, or crit failed their initial save. Quickened should probably only last one round (i.e. the round after eating).

If the PCs don't have methods of dealing with it, such as Juggernaut Mutagens to increase their Fort Saves, or Remove Paralysis to remove Paralysis, that's a skill issue. They should learn from this experience and come back with a party that is a bit more ready.

Also a side note, Elves are completely immune to Ghoul paralysis.

Liberty's Edge

As are half-elves too, by virtue of being members of the Elf ancestry (they have the Elf trait) ;-)

Dark Archive

Diseases don't progress in stages from multiple exposures. So failing the save vs Ghoul Fever shouldn't have done anything particularly harmful.

The paralysis does not have a "once you succeed on this saving throw, you're immune for 24 hours" clause like a lot of other effects.

The Quickened condition doesn't list a duration, which is almost certainly a mistake. I'd probably give it a round, like Cordell said.
