Poison Weapon Feat

Rules Discussion

I apologize if this is in the wrong place but I searched and could not find my answer.

On the Poison Weapon Feat (Rogue) when it talks about poisons (not the daily simple ones) but normal poisons, it states that if the weapon hits and does damage: it applies the effects of the poison. It doesn't say anything about saving throws. So is it automatic that the poison takes effect on a hit or is there still a saving throw? If anyone has a link that clearly shows this can you post it as well so I can show my player. Thank you for any help on this question.

The saving thrown is part of the effect of the poison. There are absolutely saves. There's no reason the feat would restate that.

HammerJack has the short answer of it already.

For rules text to show to a player, I would point to the Alchemical Poisons and Method of Exposure rules. By default any character can poison their weapon with an injury poison and attack with it. It takes several actions to draw the poison, apply the poison, and then attack with it.

Once the poison has been delivered and the target has been exposed to the poison in an appropriate manner, the rules for poisons themselves allow for a saving throw.

Poison Weapon overrides some of those default rules, but not all of them.

1) It allows drawing the poison and applying it to the weapon as a single action.

2) It allows using a contact poison on a weapon instead of just injury poisons.

3) The poison application is temporary - the attack must be made before the end of your next turn.

It doesn't override the rules about poisons themselves to cause them to not allow a saving throw.
