PF2, why can't my Bard seem to multiclass Medic & Catharsis Mage???

I'm using Pathbuilder to try to plan a Bard. He's taking Medicine at level 1, Battle Medicine as his skill feat at level 2, and initially I tried to take Catharsis Mage dedication as his class feat at level 2, because it's a big part of my theme for him, then at level 9 I wanted to use his ancestry feat to take Multitalented and spec that as Medic dedication, but it won't even appear on the list of options.

So I plugged Medic dedication in to the level 2 class feat instead, and Catharsis Mage as the Multitalented option at 9 instead, and now THAT won't appear on the list. What's going on?? If they both become available as of level 2 and I could take either, and Multitalented lets you take a second dedication, why does each one seem to negate the availability of the other later? It's obnoxious.

Multitalented only gives a dedication for a multiclass archetype. Not any other archetype.

That's stuff like rogue, fighter, cleric. Archetype forms of classes.

Medic and Catharsis Mage are not multiclass.

You've learned to split your focus between multiple classes with ease. You gain a 2nd-level multiclass dedication feat, even if you normally couldn't take another dedication feat until you take more feats from your current archetype.

If you're a half-elf, you don't need to meet the feat's ability score prerequisites.

Multitalented only allows you to take multiCLASS archetypes, not just any archetypes. So things like monk, champion, barbarian.

That said, Medic is a fairly quick archetype to graduate from because it also has skill feats, so you can get to the "I have three feats from this archetype, now I can take other archetypes again" point by level 4. (Make sure to start with a background that gives you Combat Medic as a skill feat.)

None of the backgrounds permitted in the campaign in question do that, but thanks (to you and the respondent above you) for clarifying that dumb stipulation in the rule. Maybe I can work it out with that info, or maybe not, the Cathartic Mage is my priority-- he can still handle basic first aid and will have Soothe as a signature spell and very probably Hymn of Healing eventually, too.

Battle Medicine, not Combat Medic.

Check out Field Medic. It is a general background from the Core Rulebook. APs don't usually exclude Core backgrounds, but offer additional backgrounds flavorful to the adventure. Unless your GM is applying a house restriction, you should have no conflicts picking up Field Medic.
