I've been playing both 1st and 2nd Edition since their respective releases. I have some experience with PFS in 1st Edition.

But tomorrow afternoon (2pm EST) I am to participate in my first ever 2nd Edition PFS game.

I here it's quite different. So I thought it worthwhile to ask the community what I should expect, what I might want to do, or bring, to prepare for this momentous event.

Welcome!

You're obviously well known and experienced, so I don't expect any problems understanding the game, concepts, flow of combat or any of the rules.

If anything, your GM likely knows less than you.

I would just say that the only real difference is the diminished opportunity for your roleplay to shine. Bring a table tent with your character's name and portrait so people can see who you're playing, because after the 5th random stranger introduces their PC, the first 3 will have been forgotten. Same for pronouns.

The adventures themselves are not unlike any other one-shot. In fact I model my own home game sessions using a similarly balanced spread of roleplay, skill challenges and combat. You're just all expected to cooperate, and not go too terribly off the rails, since most games have an expected runtime.

Super curious to hear your take on it!

The illustrious Ravingdork is here asking for advice? Well I do believe I’m speechless. (I’m also monitoring replies since I’m relatively new to PFS2E myself.)

If you have experience sitting at a table with other players, playing a ttrpg, and chatting with each other between slow times, then, you'll have no problems. It's all the same.

Looking up rules during combat? Check.

Looking up how a spell works? Check.

Looking up an ancestry feature in exploration mode? Check.

Looking up what to do in exploration mode? Check.

My suggestions would be to go with the flow, pay attention to what the other people are doing (and leave some space for everyone to interact, particularly at large tables), and try to have a good time.

Every table is different, because GMs have strengths and weaknesses, and because every set of players comes with their own different priorities and preferences.

Oh, and knowing your body of work, I would avoid trying to break the system -t the options to do that are limited, but in general it helps to not immediately end combat before everyone had a chance to contribute.... but at least that last bit of advice was informed by local optimized players in PFS1.

Honestly, I would not worry too much, but if you feel the need to reach out to people, maybe asking your prospective GM ahead of time might be a good suggestion, as they are likely more familiar with the local scene.

LOL. I ended up playing Breadcrumbs, a kobold rogue with a focus on trapsmithing and alchemical poisons.

But after getting some basic equipment* necessary for the character concept, I wasn't able to afford any alchemy, poisons, OR snares! I was basically just a little rogue with naught but a knife.

So he was hardly optimized! XD

Half way through the game, long after we had reached the point of no return, I slapped my hands to my cheeks and loudly exclaimed,
"Oh no! I forgot my bag of snares!"

Made for a good laugh all around.

Sounds like a great concept and name for org play ^^ ... until the print a living bread ancestry, then it will sound a bit weird. ^^
