Crusader army special ability


Rules Questions


I’m in a kingdom building campaign and we saw the “Fortress of the Faith” 3PP building, which gives our armies the Crusader special ability for 1 Consumption.

Problem is, we have no idea what the Crusader ability does. I know it’s in an adventure path (Pathfinder #36: Sound of a Thousand Screams), so someone ought to know…

Special Citadels built by belief as much as the mortar that binds them, these edifices educate and train fellow followers. Paying an additional point of Consumption cost grants kingdom armies with the Crusader special ability (detailed in Pathfinder Adventure Path #36 “Sound of a Thousand Screams”) are doubled. In addition, paying this Consumption cost reduces Unrest by one point. A demolished Fortress of the Faith can be used to build a new Garrison or Temple for half of its build cost.

Settlement Halves cost of Garrison or Temples within 6 hexes; Consumption +1, Loyalty +3, Stability +3; Defense Modifier +8.

In addition to those strategies presented in Pathfinder Adventure Path #35, these new armies make use of several new tactics. Special Ability: Crusader: Whether a legion of holy warriors or a band of freedom fighters, this army is particularly dedicated to its cause. Its consumption is reduced by –1 (to a minimum of 0). Special Ability: Mercenary: This army fights for the highest bidder. Its weekly consumption points can be paid in either Build Points or gold. It costs 1,000 × the army’s CR to pay for 1 Build Point. A mercenary army can be overpaid in gold to increase its morale. For every additional Build Point (or its worth in gold) paid in addition to its normal consumption, the army gains +1 Morale for that week (to a maximum Morale bonus equal to half the army’s CR). Resource: Ships (10 BP per 100 soldiers): This army is capable of moving over water through a single body of water (and connected bodies that a ship could reasonable reach) at a rate equal to their normal speed +1. The army receives +4 DV and –4 OM if on the water and battling an army on land. Having ranged weapons negates the penalty to OM.

Depends; can you field multiple armies at once and reduce the cost for all of them?

If you have two armies with the Crusader special ability (and that would require at least two points of Consumption without the ability) then you are coming out even.

You are also reducing Unrest by one and getting all those other benefits. But 80 BP is a LOT.
