Question about Fallen Champions.

Rules Discussion

Page 106 of the rule book says that champions who stray from their alignment or violate their code of conduct lose their divine ally and focus pool (plus abilities that depend on those features) but are those the only features they lose? In particular, it seems odd they'd keep their champion's reaction since some parts of the champion's reaction seem decidedly supernatural.

Yes, that is all they'd lose.

Re: Reactions, there are many supernatural feats they'd keep as well. Being supernatural is not the determiner, it's whether their ability is tied to their connection to their deity (or cause, etc. in some campaigns). Apparently, only Divine Ally & their Focus Pool qualify.

Funnily enough, they could still cast Lay on Hands if they had another source for Focus Points! They just lose the pool gained from the class, not Champion spells themselves.

4 people marked this as a favorite.

They don't just lose divine ally and their focus pool, they explicitly lose anything that requires those things, which would probably include any champion focus spells.

Close to 50% of their feats require a divine ally or their focus pool spell.

Also, many of the remaining feats, while not having any problems in the RAW, have huge flavour problems with being taken by a fallen champion.

Feats like divine health, blade of justice, aura of righteousness, celestial/fiendish form, celestial/fiendish mount, and divine grace all have flavour problems depending on how you fell/whether you still have faith in your deity.

Honestly if your champion falls and you don't intend to reconcile with your deity (often the case when you fall due to becoming disillusioned with your deity), you are generally better off using the rules in Gods & Magic to either retrain to follow a different deity, or retrain to become a different class (probably fighter for most champion characters).
