My main character is a Lawful Good Ranger. I found Radiance, and it was just a cold iron longsword (masterwork?).
For giggles, I started a new game, with a Paladin. When I found Radiance, the dialog changed dramatically and it became a +1 cold iron longsword.
If I continue with the Ranger, does Radiance ever become what it is in the Tabletop game, or does the main character have to be a Paladin?

There are a few steps to upgrading Radiance. I'll put them under spoiler tags.
Spoiler:
- The first step is talk to Joran Vhane during the run-up to the Tavern defense and choose the dialogue option about Radiance.
- Then you talk to him during the siege of Drezen in the citadel and ask about the scabbard he promised. Radiance upgrades to a +2 cold iron longsword.
- You then talk to Yaniel in the Ivory Sanctum and give her the sword. It upgrades to a +4 cold iron longsword, which turns into a Holy Avenger in the hands of a Paladin. You also have an evil option here.
- You can finally choose a dialogue option in the fight against Deskari in Iz, where the sword does its final upgrade to a +6 cold iron longsword.
