Magus Basic Spellstrike and Spells with an Attack Roll

Rules Discussion

Silver Crusade

So,
I do not think it is spelled out in spell strike, but if a magus uses spell strike and the spell is shocking grasp, for example, if the spellstike attack misses, the spellstike and shocking grasp spell is lost as per 2E just as if the spell attack had missed if it just shocking grasp was cast.

In other words, you cannot retain the spellstrike or the shocking grasp spell.

Correct.

If you could, there would be text within Spellstrike stating as much.

The text of Spellstrike is pretty clear IMO : "Your spell is coupled with your attack, using your attack roll result to determine the effects of both the Strike and the spell."

So, if you miss, you miss with both spell and Strike. And you have already cast the spell at the beginning of Spellstrike, so slot expanded.

I try not to be too much of a stickler for spelling, and I'm not trying to cause offense. But in this case the difference is important considering that the word 'expanded' could be confusing. That would have valid meaning when talking about spell slots considering the feat Cantrip Expansion.
