Nagaji Samurai taking Cavalier ‘First Mother's Fang’ archetype?

The Concordance

Hi everyone,
can a Nagaji Samurai take the ‘First Mother's Fang’ archetype?

It doesn’t replace the cavalier abilities that a Samurai „archetype“ replaces but I just wanted to confirm.

Both samurai and first mother's fang alter weapon proficiencies, so even if RAW allowed adding cavalier archetypes to a samurai (I am not at all certain it does) this would not be a legal combo.

The Concordance

Ahh thanks.

Yes, raw it is possible based on Jacob’s post.

You are right.
I didn’t see the weapons.

Which cavalier archetype works for Samurai?!

I think none.

At first glance the only compatible archetype I see on AON is Gallant. But note that there are a handful of Samurai specific archetypes.

Given that the only conflict is weapon proficiency I would suggest running it by your DM, as there might be a chance they will permit it… but yeah… by RAW, it isn’t compatible…

The Concordance

Thanks a lot!!

An alternate class operates exactly as a base class, save that a character who takes a level in an alternate class can never take a level in its associated class—a samurai cannot also be a cavalier, and vice versa.

Just to cite a rule that support the idea that a samurai can take cavalier archetypes, as long as he has the appropriate class features to swap.
