Thoughts on Inquisition Investigator methodology needed

Hello all,

I want to port the character of a player from PF1 to PF2. Said character is an Inquisitor. So I thought about what class would best fit an Inquisitor and the Investigator is a good chassis for the detective-of-a-church type.

So I want to homebrew an "Inquisition" methodology. My ideas:

- The skill & skill feat the methology gets would be Religion and Student of the Canon. You need to know the rules to use them against your targets. This part is simple.

- The "Lie Detector" Investigator feat can also be taken with this methology.

- I would want to switch the Key ability to Wisdom and let Devise a Stratagem use Wisdom instead of Intelligence. This would give a better Perception and would synergize with Cleric dedication, which fits.

- If the methodology need something else I thought about giving the effects of Deadly Simplicity and letting Devise a Stratagem work the deities favored weapon. If the weapon is not Agile or Finesse then the weapon die gets reduced by one step (or two steps when 2-handed weapon), to keep it in line with weapons with those traits. It's a bit clunky maybe. :)

What do you think? Is the stat-switch alone be strong enough? Would it cause more problems than good? Is the nerf to use any weapon with DaS balanced? Are there any other cool and fitting ideas for effects of an "Inquisition" methodology?

Thanks :)

Or coming from the other direction, how about Inquisitor as an Investigator methodology?

You'd become trained in religion, and get Student of the Cannon skill feat. You also get a skill feat called "Judgement" that allows you to use Religion to track an enemy of your faith, and can use Int instead of Wis to recall knowledge with Religion.

The level 4 upgrade deals 1d6 persistent aligned damage whenever you critically hit using Devise a Stratagem.

In general, I think Investigators would also benefit from a level 1 class feat that lets you prepare an innate cantrip each day (requiring trained in the associated tradition skill).

I use this homebrew i found on reddit.

Homebrew collection

In this its an investigator methodology.

Thank you two! Those are some good inspirations. :D Right, a class archetype would fit here as it allows more changes.

Honestly, that class archetype takes away way too much and gives you too little.

Going off the Magus and Summoner playtest, the wave/roll casting is equivalent to 2 class features or class feats. The archetype feat itself would count towards this, as would either the methodology or skillful lessons or the 2 class skills. Giving up all 3 AND using your class feat to pick up the archetype is too much.

If I were to implement this, I'd change it so you only lose the methodology and use a feat in exchange for the Inquisitor casting. As methodologies are normally equivalent to about 1.5 to 1.75 class feats, that might be too much already, so I'd also give trained in Religion for free (which is appropriate for a casting methodology).

Oh I wouldn't take the class archetype in that document, it's a bit much for my taste. Just the thought to think of Inqi as a class archetype and not only a methodology is worth exploring for me.

Thanks for the appraisal of how many class feats stuff might be worth!

Im only using it as a quick and dirty inquisitor for NPCs in my game at the moment as its close enough. But i do agree its a little rough as a player option.
