Why is it that a troop (Bestiary 3) that uses Form Up can create a line 7 squares across, unless they are forming up on the diagonal, in which case, they are limited to a line 5 squares across?

Square root of 2 diagonal distances, aka every second square counts as two?

1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1
1, 2, 1, 2, 1

I mean I get that, but why is the incongruity allowed to stand in cases where it makes absolutely no sense?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What incongruity?

If you use a ruler on a battle-map, 35 feet = 5 diagonal spaces or 7 horizontal/vertical spaces.

A 35-foot long line of troops fits either way.

Or are you saying that a 35-foot line of troops lined up diagonally should have two extra troop units squeezed in somehow?
