This summer i'm going to start running a year-long campaign for my home group using the new Savage Worlds Pathfinder rules. The plan is to run several episodic games, with a loose through plot. Does Year of the Open Road have a plot line that runs through it, similar to season 5, Year of the Demon?

The metaplot is more of a prolonged investigation that starts with the pregen-only 1-00 and culminating in the 2-00 multi-table special.

Some thoughts, probably doesn't really need spoiler tags with the level of detail I'm giving, but just in case:

Year of the Open Road

Spoiler:

Seven scenarios, 1-00, 1-08, 1-11, 1-16, 1-17, 1-20, 2-00

1-00 is designed for level 5 pregens.
1-08/1-11 are levels 1-4,
1-16/17/20 are 3-6s
2-00 has options 1-2/3-6/7-8

The meta plot starts out as a 'learning the history of the early pathfinders', the two-parter in 16/17 pivots a bit and the 'weight' carried by 08/11 often feels very minor. They give hints of stuff, but personally I feel they don't quite do enough, while still being interesting scenarios.

An abridged version where you start with (non-pregen) level 5 characters in 1-00 and give a bit a narration to jump over 08/11 and start in on 16/17/20 could feel cohesive and keep you in one area of the world. You could also maybe? splice in the Slithering if you want more content in that area. Depending how much of your own content you want to mix in.

Year of Corruption's Reach

Spoiler:

We don't have all the scenarios yet, (and I haven't read the released fourth installment in the metaplot yet), but from the store blurbs up through the sixth installment, its feeling like a much more direct story; there's still a mystery/history to uncover, but it feels so far likes it doled out in larger pieces in ways that I feel keep me more engaged in the plot. Both 2-01/2-03 would be very easy IMO to use a framework and expand to 2-3 sesssions worth of material if you really want to delve into some of the lore/archaeology/exploration.

In terms of other content to mix in, PFS2 1-15 is a prequel of sorts. 1-24 happens in a relatively close area of the world. Both the Kingmaker and Iron Gods adventure paths are close spatially if you wanted to mine for additional side content/locations.

In general I think Year of Corruption's Reach would translate more easily to a homegroup running in a different rule system. The lore/influential characters(both friendly/villian) feel easier to reskin to fit any of your own campaign details, etc.

That's really useful information. Thank you. Based on the description of 1/08, I really wasn't looking forward to running that one, so it's nice that I can skip it.
