Shoving / tripping a mounted character

Are there specific rules about this specific topic?
Couldn't find anything related.

On the last session we decided to use the normal rules for shove/trip, and it turned out that mounted characters got easily dismounted regardless the situation. Which means not only 1 action to stan up, but also 1 interaction to mount back. and if they have both hands occupied, the first need to release 1 or to sheathe a wepon/item, in order to get a free hand to mount.

- All enemies have great athletics, so against a reflex dc it's a piece of cake to get a success regadless the situation ( and several times a critical one ).

- Players are more or less in the same spot, since all combatants tends to have athletics, and because so are able to do the same thing ( maybe a slightly less bonus depends the current level and adversaries lvl ).

Did I miss something?
Mounted combat is probably one of the clunkiest thing in this 2e:

1) Requires you to have a companion, or else by lvl 3/4 your mount might go down with 1 hit.

2) You and your mount shares the same MAP, while if you are not riding your mount you two have:

- A separate MAP ( higher dps )
- More possibility to flank ( another ally )
- More possibility to split the incoming damage ( your companion will be a more valid target as its own than as a mount )
- The possibility to use movement feats ( which are tied to your normal movement, but can't be used while riding a mount. For example, Fleet, nimble elf, nimble hooves, ranged reprisal, elf step, goblin scuttle, rapid response, no escape, etc... ).

I really feel cornered trying to understand why and how to deal with all of this.

Additionally, "Because you can’t move your body as freely while you’re riding a mount, you take a –2 circumstance penalty to Reflex saves while mounted."

Precisely.
