Illusory Disguise limitations

The spell states that "You create an illusion that causes you to appear as another creature of the same body shape..."

To what extent is "body shape" meant to limit the spell? Can I, as a humanoid, choose to look like a lizardfolk with a tail? How about a tiefling with horns or hoofs, or an aasimar with a halo?


Seems reasonable to assume you can. Humanoid is considered a shape. Quadruped is another, blob another. If you aren't drastically straying from upright, two legs, body, a head on top, you should be fine.

It's such a mechanically weak spell anyway, I don't see the need to be strict about it.

Ask your Dm... There are a LOT of questions that end up in that bin...
