Question about duplicate trait.

I found that there are some card that add some trait which it already has, eg. Aspect of the Hawk(wilderness CD): " you may additionally discard another card to add another 1d6 and the Animal trait" and Staff of Toxins(magus CD): "you may additionally discard this card to add another 1d12 and the Poison trait." . What does that mean?

From a different thread regarding the staff of toxins:

Adding the Poison trait in first power is largely redundant. It is possible for a character to have an effect that lets you change the trait on a card, or a trait added by a power, but not necessarily both, so it could come up someday... but it's not likely to do so.

I can't think of a current situation where this would be relevant.

Aspect of the Hawk isn't played to determine the skill you are using, so the traits of the card don't become traits of the check. Thus, the power adding the animal trait is important.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of a different card?

Display this card. While displayed, for your combat check, you may use your Strength, Dexterity, or Survival skill + 1d6 plus the scenario's adventure deck number and add the Melee and Slashing traits; you may additionally discard another card to add another 1d6 and the Animal trait.

That sure sounds like you're determining the skill you are using for your combat check.

Yup. I was thinking of the other aspect spells that didn't determine checks. My bad.

There's something marvelously ironic about Hawkmoon making one of his rarer-than-a-blue-moon errors responding to a question about Aspect of the Hawk...
