The Gunslinger needs a modified version of Dual Weapon Reload badly

Gunslinger Class

Right now dual wielding Gunslingers are being seriously punished to the point of being basically unplayable. If you want to play a Drifter before you get your Way feat at level 6 then you would need to:
[1 action Shoot]
[1 action Swing]
[0 actions Drop your sword to the floor like a klutz]
[1 action reload]

then next turn you'd still need to pick it back up if you wanted to swing it. It is punishing to the point of being unplayable as the only weapon you can use if a Fist/Claw/Gauntlet, none of which you can use with your level 9 deed.

This also isn't getting into how the Pistolero can't ever dual wield pistols without the same issues.

So I Suggest a modified Version of Dual Weapon Reload for the Gunslinger.

The 1st change would be to make it a level 1 or 2 feat for the class that way the drifter can actually play the game instead of needing to throw away their melee weapon after 1 swing with it.

Secondly unless feats are added that reload a weapon as a part of their action with a [Reloading] tag or we get very powerful reload effects I feel that the the gunslingers version of the feat should apply to ALL reload effects.

This would mean that a dual wielding gunslinger would get to gamble with risky reload, or reload and move with running reload.

The drifter's feat also still isnt bad as getting a hit off and a reload is still really good and strong but instead of being the only way to play the class and forcing the game to start at level 6 the gunslinger could actually function at low level with more than a single gun.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

While I definitely agree it should be something given to the Gunslinger class, I really think it should not be a feat. Feats fixing issues with the core design of a class is exactly the kind of bad design 2e was supposed to have left behind. I don't really want there to be a level 1/2 feat option that will be mandatory for every Drifter Gunslinger.
Being able to use reload actions without an empty hand feels like it could just be a core Gunslinger feature, or at the very least, a Drifter style feature.
