Interest Check: Simple Adventure for a Starting DM

Recruitment

Hi! I'm a new DM looking to get some practice DMing. I figured play by post would be great since I don't have a very flexible schedule yet.

The adventure is Lachlan Winter's The Fiendish Felon, converted from D&D 5e to Pathfinder 1st edition. The basic set up is as follows:
The town of Bealy draws visitors from far and wide coming to see the "Night-Lights", a yearly event where pixies and sprites float from the woods to deliver gifts to the townsfolk. But when the local flora and fauna start becoming more aggressive, everyone is packing up, leaving the town on the edge of collapse.

Ideally I would like to run this adventure, it's sequel, and beyond if the party is up for it, although I understand if they can't.

A few basics:

  • My virtual tabletop of choice is Roll20.
  • When I do start the campaign I'll hold session 0 on Discord.
  • I am all for new players, and am willing to teach them how the game works.

So, with all that in mind: anyone interested?

I'd be interested. I'm not new to Pathfinder, but I am new to the forums. A short adventure to learn the ropes sounds perfect.

A few points of clarification, your intention is to play the game essentially live, using Roll20 and/or Discord to facilitate in-time discussion?

I'd be interested in a play-by-post pitch, but this doesn't sound like that and I wanted to verify.

Sure! I originally just wanted to use Discord for the session 0, but I completely forgot about the Discussion tab on all campaigns. I'll change the pitch to support this.

As for Roll20, it's more about having an easily accessible virtual tabletop. You can join a Roll20 game anytime you want, so players can just move their character's around on the tabletop and then post what they are doing here.

Does that help clarify things?

EDIT: I have changed my mind about the Discord Session 0. Session 0 will just be held in the Campaign's discussion tab.

I, perhaps, would be interested. I've never played the adventure, but the "beyond" might be interesting too. I'd love to hear more about the world itself to have any idea of what kind of character I'd make.

Also, in character creation, what would you think to run? Point-buy? If so, what points? Would you want to roll? If so, what dice?

Are you allowing all Paizo content? 3rd-party?

Would you consider running with Background skills?

Would you want feat taxes?

What would your required/wished for post rate be? Many slow down on the weekends, would you require weekends posts?

Do you allow traits? If so, how many? Drawbacks for an extra trait?

Curious, I'm not sure why you wouldn't play the game in the 'game thread' and use the 'discussion' thread for out of game discussions.

Having said that, I would be more interested in a PBP game here on the boards instead of live on discord.

SmooshieBanana asks some very good questions Hey Smooshie!I think you'll find plenty of interest if you list some particulars that you looking for.

Kintargo's recruitment is a good example of the kinds of information folks will want.

And just as a side-note - a lot of stuff that is getting asked is either part of later books (e.g. background skills from PF Unchained, LOTS of classes) or widely-used and highly regarded house rules (e.g. feat taxes).
If you are new to GMing PF, I would highly advise you to clearly state [CORE ONLY], meaning that you will only work with the core rules.
That will eliminate pretty much any question, beside maybe how health and money is decided on character creation.

Other than that, starting to GM with PbP here on the forum is a wonderful thing.
Lots of really great and helpful players.
I also found that GMing PbP has the VERY neat benefit of giving you more time to think and prepare compared to a live session.
If I had more time, I'd throw my hat into the ring, but alas I can only say: good luck!

To be honest, this is more of an interest check than anything else. I don't have a specific setting chosen yet (the adventure itself only involves one town), but how much information about setting would you want?

I don't have an exact list of character build rules, but generally: I'm fine with either rolling for stats or point-buy, Paizo only, no third-party, I'm actually a fan of background skills, but feat taxes sounds a little confusing, I'd prefer if you could post at least once a week at the minimum, and traits are totally good, including drawbacks.

I do plan on doing that, I just forgot that I could. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out for when I post a campaign recruitment page.
