Elf Tiefling Ranger PF2e

Advice

I'm making an Elf Tiefling Ranger for PF2e. I am new to 2e and was hoping to get some feedback, ideas and suggestions on this type of character build.

It will mainly depend what you want to do with the character.

A Classic Archer one? Pick Hunted Shot and focus your skills on Nature and Survival and if you want you could add some warden spells like Gravity Weapon and Soothing Mist for support or damage.

Animal Companion is also something that could be added. Snares as well is also interesting.

A melee Ranger? Twin Takedown if you want to dual wield, disrupt prey is interesting for a melee character and Skirmisher Strike if you are not dual wielding.

Or maybe you want to go deeper into that fiendish heritage and MC into Diabolic or Demonic Sorcerer.

So an example of a lvl 6 build:
Ranger
Precision Edge

Class Feats:
1- Hunted Shot
2- Gravity Bow
4- Soothing Mist
6- Far Shot or Favored Enemy

Ancestry Feats:
1- Grimspawn
5- Elven Instincts

Skill Feats:
2- Survey Wildlife
3- Fleet (General Feat)
4- Experienced Tracker
6- Assurance (Survival)

My character will start out at level 6. She is an Archer.

My husband put together a list of the different feats I could choose from for an Elf Tiefling Archer. Feats from Ranger, Archer and Fighter. I choose a Ranger because the feats for a ranger worked the best for the type of character I want. I really thought It would be Archer but the feats for an Archer are not all that great in my opinion.

Scarab Sages

Tiefling Elf, with Hermit Background and Flurry Hunter's Edge. Adjust as you like.

Character Build:

Ability Scores:
STR 14
DEX 19
CON 14
WIS 16
INT 12
CHA 10

Background: Hermit (Nature & Dubious Knowledge)

Class Feats:
1-Hunted Shot
2-Animal Companion
4-Heal Companion
6-Mature Animal Companion

Ancestry Feats:
1-Elven Lore
5-Elven Instincts

Skills:
1.Arcana
2.Athletics
3.Medicine
4.Nature (Expert)
5.Occultism
6.Religion (Expert)
7.Society
8.Stealth
9.Survival

Skill Feats:
2- Experienced Tracker
3- Toughness (General Feat)
4- Recognize Spell
6- Battle Medicine

The PC will generally Hunt Prey + Hunted Shot, then your choice of Command an Animal Companion, Recall Knowledge, Stride, Battle Medicine, or a 3rd Strike (at a -6 penalty.)

I'd possibly go Nimble Hooves at lvl 1 and then Nimble Elf at 5. This means for a large amount of enemies you will be able to spent 1 action moving away for every 2 they spend pursuing.

Alas no.

From Nimble Hooves : "Special The Speed increase from this feat isn't cumulative with any Speed increase from your ancestry feats (such as Nimble Elf)."

Serves me right for working from memory!

Why did they make the archers so weak? I hit 1d6. While melee attack hits for way more damage. I have always played an Archer but in 2e the Archer is so weak.

This is problem that half disappear in the higher levels if you invest in STR and take composite bow. Paizo didn't let ranged PCs to add their dex modifier to attacks like many game systems because the advantage of being out of enemies' melee range unless they "waste" actions to get closer.

If it is a significant problem, ask your GM if they are ready to increase the dice size of the bow by one.
