I don't have any real knowledge of Wonder girl, aside from her in the animated show Young Justice, so I'm neither excited or disappointed with this choice. It does make sense that they'd develop another female led show with Supergirl ending though, to have 2 on their roster, and also that it lets them tap into what's arguably the best and most successful part of the DC movie universe with Wonder Woman related plots and characters.

Joel,
This is a totally new Wonder Girl. It's kind of derived from the new Wonder Woman that's coming in (I believe) January.
How many Wonder Girls have they had now?
Ah, this did look a little familiar. It spins out of the upcoming "DC Future" event. The Wonder Woman of that is the future of this Wonder Girl.

I don't know....part of what gets these shows off the ground is the characters come with an audience to begin with. Green Arrow, Black Lightning, Flash all had fans before the shows even aired.
But nobody has a clue who this "Wonder Girl" is. The first issue of a comic with her in it hasn't even been published yet. They seem to be hedging their bets on a Fanbase that they can't even be certain will exist by the time the show airs.

While I don't disagree entirely, I think when you start getting to characters which are more and more niche, then the existing fan base matters less. The amount of people who even know who wonder girl (any version) is are so small compared to bigger name characters like Green Arrow, Flash, or even Black Lightning that I don't think it will matter too much. Also, specifically in the realm of CW arrowverse shows, they have established a trusted brand, and many will be willing to follow them into any new arrowverse show, regardless of what they know about the characters going in. Look at Legends of Tomorrow - sure they launched with a few characters from Arrow and Flash, but in the grand scheme of things, they were bit players in those shows. As long as CW doesn't come out with a clunker like Inhumans was for Marvel, I think they've past the point where name recognition matters (as long as at least a few of the shows on the air always have name recognition).

Plus "Wonder Girl" gets to draw on the name recognition of Wonder Woman, which should help.
I'm honestly not sure that outside of a handful of big names, comic character name recognition helps that much

Given how much a fan of comic book Oliver Queen or Barry Allen could be hugely disappointed by how very different the WB characters have been, it's entirely possible that the choice to use an unknown who hasn't yet had a personality established in the comics could be a plus.
Unlike with Donna or Cassie, there's no real chance they are going to 'get her all wrong' or that her WB portrayal will be a 'slap in the face' to all her comic fans. :)

Apparently Naomi has a show in development as well. I've heard a rumor that Ava DuVernay's involvement in this show may be [further] indication that Green Arrow and the Canaries is not going forward.
