Message cantrip, Sending spell and how to target

Rules Discussion

Hi friends, please share your collective thoughts on this one.
1) do you need to be able to be able to SEE a creature to target it with the message cantrip? (It’s clear they need to be able to see you in order to respond)
2) and if so, do you need to be able to see a creature to target it with the sending spell?
3) Sending has a range of “planetary.” I can guess what this means, but is it defined anywhere in the rules?
4) finally what do you think the RAI are for how these two spells should work?
Many thanks !

Some spells allow you to directly target a creature, an object, or something that fits a more specific category. The target must be within the spell’s range, and you must be able to see it (or otherwise perceive it with a precise sense) to target it normally. At the GM’s discretion, you can attempt to target a creature you can’t see, as described in Detecting Creatures on pages 465–467. If you fail to target a particular creature, this doesn’t change how the spell affects any other targets the spell might have.

So for message, you need to be able to see the target. Interestingly, by this rule, you also need to be able to see the target of sending as well. Not sure that was intended, but that seems to be... the RAW.

Obviously the caster need not be able to see the target for Sending, it only has to be a target that is "familiar".
