Hooded Lantern is the Best Light?

Ok, so I was looking at various light sources. Outside of a higher level light cantrip, is a hooded lantern the best light in the game? Seems odd.

Torches, everburning flame, etc, all do 20 feet of bright and 20 feet of dim. A hooded lantern does 30 feet of bright, 30 feet of dim.

Is everburning flame supposed to shed more light at higher levels? It's heightening doesn't list anything. Just seems super weird that with all the magical stuff you have, if no one has a light cantrip at higher levels you will still be using a 7sp lantern lol.

This really isn't that odd. What would be odd is if there weren't solid reasons to choose one source of light over another.

For instance, if a hooded lantern only shed light in the same area as a torch, a lantern (plus oil) costs 71 times what a torch does. Unless that also means providing 71 times the duration of light it's not worth choosing to carry a lantern (as a party) over choosing to pack torches. Yes, there is a Bulk issue with relying solely on torches, but spread around a party quite a few can be carried at a time without there being an issue.

And then there's the light cantrip, which is a significant investment since it's roughly 20% of the cantrips a character can have and is only used for illumintation. And that's why it gets to be better than mundane lights and also better than the relatively inexpensive everburning torch.

The main advantage of higher-level continual light spells is that they are more resistant to darkness spells. I mean, if you get hit with a chilling darkness, it would be pretty annoying if it didn't only hurt you, but also knocked out your lights.
