Yes. You can still hold (but not properly wield) a 2 handed weapon in 1 hand.

Yes, and you wouldn't necessarilly have to wait until the next round if you haven't used more than one action. Removing one's hand is a free action I believe. Regripping is an action.
So, for example, you could attack with the maul (1 action), release one hand (free action), attempt to trip (1 action), then regrip (1 action). Just remember that tripping has the attack trait, so it would take the multi-attack penalty in my example (since it's the second attack of the round). Had I not attacked with the maul first, there would be no penalty to the skill check.

One last question, would I be able to wear Handwraps in order to get that Item bonus to Trip attempts with my hand? Is there any other way? And would I be able to wear Handwraps while attack with a Maul?

You could wear handwraps while attacking with a maul. They would only give you a bonus to your trip attempt if you had an unarmed attack with the Trip trait.
Something like Armbands of Athleticism would still help you, though.
